Re: Saints lose a great fan today.

Although I’ve been preparing myself for it for a while, now, it doesn’t make it any easier to revisit this thread, but I need to unfortunately.

My father passed away last night, and so now the Saints have lost another original great fan. He was 90. Although I wasn’t able to be at his side, he was surrounded by my sister and his grandchildren and passed peacefully in his bed. I guess that’s as much as any of us can ask for. Sorry again to clog a Saints board with my own personal grief, but I’m hoping sharing with other Saints fans here will help start the healing process just like it did when I posted about my mother passing.

My father was an honorable man who was born on a small farm in dustbowl Oaklahoma with 7 siblings and moved to Louisiana as a kid. He used to tell stories about selling lemonade in the stands of LSU games when he was a boy. He started to go to McNeese on a baseball scholarship after high school, but ended up serving in the Air Force over in Korea during the war. He returned home, met my mom and began a career working in refineries in Baton Rouge. He loved LSU, the Saints, baseball and golf (as well as his family) fiercely. I fondly remember him taking the family to watch Pete Maravich play. I consider it a blessing that on his last weekend on earth he got to see both the Tigers and the Saints win one last time. Hopefully it’s a sign of divine things to come this season. I know he thoroughly enjoyed watching LSU win the World Series this year in baseball.

Sorry for the selfish rant everyone. I realize we all have hardships in our lives to deal with. God bless and best wishes to everyone.

Sorry Boston. If posting here alleviates pain or suffering then by all means, let out some sadness. I hope you can heal quickly, brother.

Sorry for your loss!

I lost my wife of 20 years July 4th last year to lung cancer; there hasn't been a day since then that I haven't cried.

I have always wondered what happened in Heaven that day that God needed my Angel to fix it?

So sorry to hear this Boston.

Please don't ever feel the need to apologize for something like this, it's not even remotely selfish.

We are all human and sometimes just talking about things brings us some form of comfort in difficult times.

Please feel free to tell any stories you wish about your family, it's nice to learn a little more about people we converse with daily.

My mother, born and raised in New Orleans, passed away today after a losing battle with non-viral pneumonia-like symptoms at the age of 85. She was a prototypical Louisiana lady of class and character who loved and rooted for the Black and Gold since day one. She was a pious, caring woman who cared for her family and was honestly the nicest person I’ve ever encountered in my life (and I can produce witnesses to back that up!).

Anyway, I am again sorry if this seems self-centered to post here. Maybe (hopefully) it’s the beginning of a long healing process for me. I just wanted/needed to let people know that Heaven gained a new Saints fan today and I thank God she got to see at least one SB Championship for her team.

Thanks All.

Edit: She repeated this poem by William Bryant on her hospital bed before passing. I’d like to pass it on

“So live, that when thy summons comes to join The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm where each shall take His chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,Scourged to his dungeon; but, sustain'd and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave,Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams."

Never apologize for expressing your true feelings anywhere for any reason. Even though many here may bicker we are still family albeit sometimes dysfunctional. Sorry for your loss and I wish you and your family the best. Glad she was able to Say her goodbyes and pass in such a poetic manner.
