Drew Brees done at NBC after one season as NFL analyst

One and done.

Legendary NFL quarterback Drew Brees will not return to NBC after just one season as a studio and game analyst, according to sources.

He was pretty bad. Too wooden.

I honestly don’t think Payton will be any better.

Sometimes wonder if Brees wasn't fully accepted by that NBC crew, set; often it seemed like he was only to comment when cue'd; he's a guy that sets things in motion...

Agree with Chris that he came off stiff, but I think he'd do better in the booth, like Romo, calling games but with a good young announcer, getting more reps...

Brees did have his one moment picking the Saints over the Buccaneers and you can tell Brees knew his pick would be right - as it turned out to be...

Looks like he's going to be free to return to the Saints.

;)

Yep, really stiff but I’ve seen far worse.

I think Drew would be better as a color analyst, while not animated as Romo is but just as knowledgeable and pretty fair, which I like. Unlike Collinsworth arse, he has to be one of the driest and biased analyst out there.

Should we blame the new hair for his shortcomings at NBC?

He was a good game caller, as an "analyst" who really cares? It's entertainment not science or journalism. I can't stand most of the analysts especially the rest of PFT (can't stand any of them). Hopefully he takes over the #1 game caller on Fox now that Aikman is gone (good riddance)

Make him an offensive coordinator.

You can come back. As a coach.

I though he was alright doing the college games.

I didn't think he was bad at all. At least the one game I saw. I've certainly heard worse.

I don't think he's gonna play ball again. Even if he did, most teams would pass. I'm sure he hates the way his career ended. And honestly, so do I.

I honestly can’t provide a good opinion. I usually don’t watch games with the sound on and, If it is, I tune out what announcers and people are saying during games anyway. It goes back to that story I told about watching the falcons game at a bar last year. I don’t GAS about any conversation going on when a Saints game is going on. That’s just me.

I do think Brees could come back into the league and be an effective tutor/backup QB for the right person/team. Imagine if you will he signs to be the back up QB for the Chargers and Herbert. The storylines there would be great. He’s still a smart dude and I’m sure he’d be the best backup QB in the league should he choose to be so.

But why?

Re: Drew Brees done at NBC after one season as NFL analyst

Said this before, Brees wanted to call games and as the Commentator, he'd eventually excel as Romo does...

I'd pair him with a young, non-bumbling announcer doing at lease one college game a week and give him one NFL game a week; before long, he'd be as good as Romo...

Why what? Why do I think he could be a backup QB?

No. I'm pretty sure saintsfan1976 was asking why would Brees ever want to be a backup QB. Not for the money. Not to stay close to the game. He can do that as an announcer. Not as a mentor. He could do that as a coach. The challenge? No. The prestige? Nope. It would also reset the Pro Football Hall of Fame clock by two years.

Well bully for you Guido for butting in on what you think someone else meant about a question they posed to me.

You are just being “argumentative”. Stop playing the victim.

I made a comment. Another user responded. I asked that user a question. You butt in. It’s simple. Why you can’t understand that’s it rude to interrupt is your problem. Is 1976 not able to respond?

Maybe DB couldn't stand the sight of working alongside Florio & Simms for 7, 8 hours a day? Driving in to cold Bristol, CT office isn't the same as being down South ... culture, food, weather, atmosphere & whatnot.

I wouldn't blame him if that was the case :bng:

Yeah, the part where he says that he prepared the same way as an in game analyst as he did when he was preparing for a game as a QB was very telling. There is only one NBC color commentator because NBC only has the one game a week. I have a feeling he'll have a game commentator gig at Fox or CBS fairly soon.

Round hole. Square peg. Let him just talk about the plays and explain the game. That is where he shines. He is designed to diagnose plays.
