San Antonio Express-News

Last week, it was kick returner Michael Lewis, cornerback Fakhir Brown and offensive lineman Jermane Mayberry. On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints added three more significant injury casualties to their crowded training room.

Kick returner Aaron Stecker, subbing for Lewis, injured his left Achilles' tendon while fumbling the opening kickoff. Strong safety Jay Bellamy hurt his right shoulder in the third quarter. And defensive tackle Brian Young left the game with an injured left arch.

Saints coach Jim Haslett said Stecker and Bellamy are both considered "out" for next week's game against Buffalo. Young's status is uncertain.

With Lewis out for the year and Stecker unavailable, Fred McAfee is the Saints' top return man. Brown (knee) and Mayberry (shoulder) were both inactive Sunday.

Dirty laundry: After the game, many of the Saints were still talking about the penalty that cost them an apparent third-quarter touchdown on a punt return by Donte' Stallworth.

Nate Poole was penalized for blocking the Vikings' Willie Offord in the back, but replays showed the contact was marginal at best. Poole said Offord was bragging about his acting job on the play.

"He told me, 'I faked them,'" Poole said. "He was laughing."

if poole did it, he did it, acting by offord or not... it still doesn't explain the torching of the defense and the anemia of the offense.... we still don't have a good offensive line, no heart, and no run defense..... all good teams have these things... it's time for a regime change and a couple of personnel changes (brooks, for christ's sake)

They have GOT to be kidding me...

Granted, I appreciate the fact that they at least put up a fight in the 2nd half (unlike Kansas City last night).............but i hope they aren't seriously looking at that one play as some sort of reason for not winning...
