Eric Fischer - Should We?

I've always wanted to create a "Should We...?" post. Woohoo!!

Fischer is 31. Had a down year after returning from an ACL. Otherwise he's graded very well at LT for many years.

Apparently he's turned down nine teams' offers.

Saints have appx $7MM in cap (I could be wrong there).

So, assuming we weren't one of those nine teams, what do you think?

Well.... Should We...?

Jerruh may make a move for him... we'll see.

I’d prefer old man Jason Peters.

What do yall think of this take:

Quote:

OT/OG Alex Leatherwood
Released by: Raiders
Draft status: Round 1 - 2021
Positional athleticism: Elite

Believe, I know how badly Leatherwood played in his first season with the Raiders. But hear me out on this one. By now, it's plainly obvious, Las Vegas picked Leatherwood far too early in the draft. He probably should've been a second or third round selection. Had he been, expectations would've been drastically different. Maybe that would've impacted his play. Maybe not.

Either way, this is a multi-year starter at Alabama who was reliable in college, has serious measurables and tested like a high-caliber athlete before his rookie season. Yes, the technical and balance elements of his game are abysmal right now. But the tools can't be ignored. Plus, Leatherwood has experience at tackle and guard in the NFL. He's officially a reclamation project now, before his third professional season. But with the right offensive line coach and teammates around him, it's not absurd to believe this former first-rounder can be a serviceable contributor in this league.

Saw this too. I’d take a flyer.

I wouldn’t even want Leatherwood as a back up.

He performed poorly in pre season - hand placement needs a ton of work.

For the Raiders to give up on a former 1st rounder after ONE season is pretty telling.

Big swing and miss for Mayock and Gruden.

I would atleast try and invite him for a workout. If he coulf fill in at LT to begin with and then slide over to either guard position once Penning comes back that could be good.

You also have a new regime at the helm. I'm not defending Leatherwood's performance (I haven't watched it at all), BUT can he be revived in the right system as pointed out?

Let's ask Doug Marrone what he thinks.

I'm still waiting for Dougie M to comment on our own former 1st rounder .... Cesar Ruiz. All of the praises I hear and read are coming from players & not coaches.

It gets real in less than 2 weeks :bng:.

I haven't seen any interviews with Dougie Marrone besides when we first hired him and he made the circuit. He seems like a no nonsense/in your face kind of coach. Has he praised anyone? Some coaches make you work to earn their praise...especially the hard nosed ones. Marrone, as I recall, was a top motivator and technician, which is why he was recruited away.

He could be one of the most influential coaches on the team if he can teach Peat and Ruiz the proper fundamentals and instill a tougher attitude. I read somewhere that he was focusing solely on the guards in training camp. Lord knows they need it! Fingers crossed.

Yes.

At least make the call 📞 to Eric’s camp.
