Ian Book headed to Philly also

Not really worried about him. Just found it interesting they snag him after the CGJ thing.

I was kind of excited about him. We hadn't taken a QB in the draft in a while and I was kind of hoping he was going to develop into something special. It is what it is I suppose.

Hopefully they put him in the game against the Saints. Guaranteed two turnovers for our defense.

Payton will always be the QB whisperer to me. Look at what he did for Drew! He just hasn't had much to work with besides mid range draft picks. Book may do well in that system that is set up for a running QB to succeed. I wonder if Philly wants Baun too?

QB development.... Who is the person we know that can after Sean left?

Loosing Ceedy and Book to the same opponent in one week kinda sorta got me punching the air.

I don't know Rugby. I think Sean gets way too much credit for Drew. For me, it's more of look what they did for each other. Those mid range picks were hand selected by Payton.

He was really good at developing Drew....drafting a QB not so much. He always looked for rookie QB's to develop in his mold as a player, which wasn't that good. He may not have been the best QB but he is one of the most creative play callers in NFL history.

I can't wait for the Netflix documentary.

Ian Book was actually a fairly decent prospect. The problem I see with him is he plays scared and it's difficult to develop a guy once that happens.

To be a bit fair the only time he got a chance with the Saints was with a COVID depleted roster consisting of the following starting lineup:

PlayerPos
Ian BookQB
Alvin KamaraRB
Adam PrenticeFB
Easop WinstonWR
Lil'Jordan HumphreyWR
Nick VannettTE
Caleb BenenochT
James HurstT
Calvin ThrockmortonG
Cesar RuizG
Erik McCoyC

I was there. He never had a chance.

I agree with you about that particular game being a very difficult way to start a career. The problem is his skittish tendencies carried over to the following year, he had mostly dump off type of passes most of the Saints 2022 preseason and was mostly ineffective. I didn't watch the Eagles preseason games, but what I read is he was very indecisive and really looked bad. Guys who are backups need to make the most of their opportunity when they get it and unfortunately Book hasn't done that so far.

Covid, no oline, played with “backups” etc

Ian Book simply isn’t good enough at this level.

Eagle rookie (6th rd) QB Tanner McKee looked solid in pre season & with 3’s.

Bad scouting by the Saints. It happens 🤷🏼.

Eagle 3s could be better than Saints 3s?

They do now it appears, as Jurrah cries. There must be new blood after Andy Reid left them.

Re: Ian Book headed to Philly also

I guess we are about to see if Coach Peyton is a true QB Whisper. After signing Brees the synergy between those two was a major reason for the Saints success.

History to this point has not shown that Coach Peyton has able to recruit, develop or be successful with drafting or other NFL QB’s career reclamation projects much beyond Drew.

Drew’s high football IQ, under appreciated athleticism and durability, dedication to film study, preparation, his pre-snap recognition of defenses allowed him to a win often before the ball was snapped. His processing speed identifying miss matches, processing route progressions coupled with his accuracy elevated all the players around him.

We can only imagine what could have been during Drew’s career and 5000+ yard seasons had Coach Peyton and staff put together just a mid tier or better defense.

After Allen took over as Defensive Coordinator in late 2016 along with Jeff Ireland scouting and drafting more attention was paid to improving the defensive units.

Is fair to question whether Allen’s improving defense was the unit responsible for holding the team together thru Drew’s thumb injury missing 6 games in 2019 and his final year in 2020.

Was Coach Peyton’s cast of revolving QB’s an attempt to recreate his successes with Drew that never made any real impact. Game management game planning with a really good Dennis Allen defense was only thing between mediocrity and 3-13 seasons.

I thank Coach Petyon for his time and contribution to the organization, wish him well and think he will improve the Denver Organiztion.

For a coach to have coached a generational talent like Brees, Brady or a Manning, recent history shows that coaches fortunes change rapidly when the generational QB’s retire or move on.

Dennis Allen’s defense was the unit that allowed the Saints to be even remotely competitive and further bolstered Coach Peyton’s reputation.

The next couple of years with Denver will tell us much about Coach Peyton and Drew’s years together in New Orleans.
