History Repeats Itself - Dennis Allen's Raiders Wikipedia

I copied this blurb from Dennis Allen's Wikipedia:

"In his first season as head coach, the Raiders struggled as they finished the 2012 season with a record of 4–12. That offseason, the Raiders were facing salary cap problems and had traded away most of their draft picks prior to Allen's arrival, which did not allow him to establish his system with the right players. In the middle of the 2013 season, Allen decided to bench quarterback Terrelle Pryor (who was injured) for undrafted rookie Matt McGloin, in hopes of salvaging the rest of the season. Later, Pryor continued to be benched although he was healthy enough to return.[11]"

So right now we are 1-3. We are facing salary cap problems and have traded away most of our draft picks. We have decided to bench our starting QB who is injured in hopes of salvaging the rest of the season. 1-3 is the exact same winning percentage as 4-12, Allen's record in both of his full seasons with the Raiders.

In his first year with the Raiders Dennis Allen actually had Carson Palmer, a decent QB who threw for 4000 yards, but due to salary cap issues they could not afford to keep him in 2013. Now we have the next former Bengal journeyman QB in Andy Dalton playing for Allen. If Dalton somehow succeeds, he is on a one year contract and we have the least salary cap room in the league so we might not be able to keep him. As the backup to Dalton, Allen's Raider's had Terrelle Pryor, an injury prone QB who was not really a QB. Our backup to former Bengal QB Andy Dalton today: injury-prone not-really-QB Taysom Hill. Maybe if we wanted to get a different Dennis Allen than the Raiders got, we shouldn't have tried to duplicate as many aspects of Allen's tenure with the Raiders as possible. Or maybe Allen is who he is, 1-3, 4-12, maybe not the best interview, lucky to get the least desireable head coaching job on some team with no cap room, no draft picks, and the refs with their knives out, and then the results speak for themselves.

Interesting, although I should say there is a difference between Dalton and McGloin. I veteran QB and an undrafted rookie are not the same.

I see a team that doesn’t look like they go all out at practice.

The flags, miscues/turnovers and lack of discipline is staggering.

Lack of preparation - > It starts at the top though.

I’m going to say it if no one else do. I’m missing Sean Payton. 3 games lost(in a row), I really can’t recall in Payton era

You don’t remember 3 straight years that were wasted during Bree’s prime where we went 7-9?

I wasn't feeling it so much until yesterday when I was watching the Pats go to OT versus the Packers on the road and Belichick nearly beating them with his third string QB.

There are a 1,000 different ways to motivate people. You have to find a coach that has one or a few of them and is very much able to channel it into his players.

We'll have to see if Allen has that or not. I think we'll have a pretty good idea by the Thanksgiving.

l love what Sean Payton did for my Saints, taking us from the dredges of the NFL to the Super bowl XlLIV champions. The man was meticulous and OCD as hell, who micro managed everything. As an organization we are most likely missing Bill Parcel's influence more than anything

We are sloppy in all aspects of the game. Well, maybe not defense. But special teams performing this poorly is one of the coaching aspects of accountability missing from the top down along with Payton.

The organization has given Allen everything he needs to succeed. So what's the problem? Injuries slow first half starts for the offense? Perhaps he doesn't demand excellence from his players or his coaches. Whatever it is we are in deep doo. If things don't turn around this season I don't want Allen to return next season.

I think as Rugs said, it's the influence that's missing.

Payton demanded a level of fundamental play.
Remember when Ingram fumbled in 2016 Vs Hawks, Payton benched him immediately and ran Tim Hightower 30 times in that game.

I don't think Pete C has the stones to be that brash guy that'll call you out on your BS, I'll hold my hands up, I wanted him to be OC but I now see we miss Payton's Intimidating behaviour.

I also think we let a ton of talent walk for basically nothing.
We are about to give the eagles a first round pick and then we gave them CGJ for pocket change.
I was tough on Marcus Williams but he was a very good center fielder and a decent enough tackler. Mathieu doesn't look like he wants to tackle.
