A $50 million Turd

that's what Deuce looks like. And I'm a huge Deuce fan. The run game cannot be fully blamed on the offensive line. Deuce looks slow, and appears to be going down by the time he reaches the line of scrimmage.

I agree with ya on that one Black, should have cut him before he got to the dresssing room last year in Jacksonville and gave him a bus ticket.

CHACHING 10-02-2005 04:55 PM

Sorry Cherry ..but Jacksonville was 2 years ago...........
sorry

Deuce has looked kind of off this year I think. If it weren't for that last drive of the game, he would have been under 100 yards... again. Also, the number of times he put his head down and fell forward for an extra yard or so occurred more often than they needed to - like when he could have got another few yards by staying on his feet. That, I believe, IS a disturbing trend.

Nothing against Deuce mind you, but I can't say that I wasn't a bit confused by his "diving forward" move, which occurred far more than any other move.

Also, did you see him fail to get past that DB on the second last drive of the game? I a bit disappointing.

lynwood 10-02-2005 05:54 PM

Well when you anounce you are going to be relying on the run more this season Defenses tend to key in on the running back. Doesn't help either when he gets hit in the backfield more than up the field. But after saying that yes he looks slower and doesn't seem to have a burst.

Euphoria 10-02-2005 06:06 PM

no deuce looks off... I noticed it last year slower...

SaintStoneyMount 10-03-2005 03:45 AM

Duece was slower last year..He was hurt (ankle) so far this year he has not been deuce like. Maybe it's because until today we haven't been in a position to run him late in the game. At least he finally broke the 100 yard mark in a game today. Isn't this his first 100 yard game this season. Hopefully he will benifit from better playcalling and better play from the 0-line

Dude, I'm a true Saints fan. I always stick around for the second half letdown. (thankfully it didn't come this week)

Deuce was getting tackled in the backfield for most of the game. Stop drinking the moonshine while you're watching the games and you won't miss these things.
By the time he reached the line of scrimmage, untouched, he would lower his head, and start falling down. I just don't get that. It's different from "falling forward for a couple of extra yards". This looks like if he didn't fall forward, and stayed upright, he could gain 5-7 extra yards.

I'm not going off on the guy. He's my favorite player in the league, but I'm not blind. Take away that 30+ yrd run, and he's under 100 again.

saintswhodi 10-03-2005 10:49 AM

Whatever Deuce's problem is/was, it went away in the 4th quarter when they knew even more we would run. Maybe this will give him some confidence in his blockers. At times, it looks like he going through the motions, and that is disappointing. I think teams do key on him though and attempt to make Brooks beat them. Which isn't a bad strategy. But like some said, I sometimes see Deuce falling when it looks like he can make more of a play. Hopefully the 4th quarter of this game wakes him up, and he gets it done. Besides, usually when RBs go over 100 yards they have that one long run that does it. Case in point, McGahee had two against us and he almost broke 100. If Deuce ever gets one of those again, he will be over 100 every week. The problem is getting him to have one of those it seems though.

yasoon 10-03-2005 11:45 AM

I'll preface this by saying that Deuce is my favorite player...so bear that in mind. (I think I'm still capable of being objective.)

His feet don't seem to be that quick this year. The bounce out run late yesterday was the first time I've really seen him motor all year.

I'm not gonna put it all on the line...something is definitely not clicking beyond the blocking.

Having said that....I have not seen a nice, big hole all year. Deuce isn't as quick footed as alot of the runners in the league, so he needs a few yards to get a head of steam and get his shoulders squared. After that, he gets really hard to tackle. He seems to be getting hit really early, and though he can break tackles, I think he needs to get it going in order to do so.

I agree though, I've had a couple of guys say nice game Deuce, and I had to tell them that most of the yards came late. But...that's the model we're hoping for. We're really gonna need to be within 1 score (or leading) to pound the ball. Deuce does his damage late and we have to be IN the game for him to work.

Hopefully, the late runs were a sign of things to come.

Also, with regard to our O Line....Isn't it weird how solid the pass blocking appears to be, while the run blocking seems a bit scattered and sketchy? (We also need more traps and counters as opposed to running off tackle left, off tackle right.)

jrmllb 10-03-2005 08:13 PM

He was getting hit in the backfield alot, but I guess you failed to notice he was making it back to the line or better...can you ask for much more when your getting pounded in the backfield...I think deuce also missed out on not having the best blocking reciever in the NFL there on Sunday

I couldn't have said that better. Our running game is one precitable rush play after another. They have no wrinkles in the rush scheming.

Like most I love Deuce, and fully agree things don't look perfect. I still haven't been able to convince myself that there is something wrong with him...I still believe that it's more the plays they are running and really the lack of our O-lineman making an initial chip and getting onto a backer that is the reason behind the lack of big rushes. Time and time again I see o-lineman lock on a tackler and get in a good block, but it's those secondary blocks after the initial line of scrimmage ones that make the big plays happen.

And yes.....I snuck my butt back in here.

BlackandBlue 10-03-2005 09:55 PM

Sad when a rookie is putting more linemen on their back than the rest of the line.

Hey old friend, where you been hiding?

lumm0x 10-03-2005 10:00 PM

I sneak a peek now and then. Just been keeping too damn busy to yak. I sure was in a good mood Sunday though and thought I'd drop in.

BlackandBlue 10-03-2005 11:25 PM

Do it more often.

What do you think about Brown?

CASaintsFan 10-04-2005 01:48 PM

They are running trap plays...in fact, a lot of those plays were simple guard traps with Karney lead blocking into the hole. They'd run that play left, and then right...the same damn play. In the 2nd half, one of the reasons they didn't score is because London Fletcher stalemated Karney and created a pile of bodies right in the hole. Finallly they started testing the outside late in the game. I agree, though, Deuce has looked a bit slower then usual.

lumm0x 10-07-2005 08:42 PM

B&B- my thoughts on Brown? Well I think he's been solid. He was jumpy early in the year when he faced Peppers and Strahan, but he's settled down now and is steadier. He hasn't been spectacular, but I'm very happy with him. As much as I think we have greater needs, can you imagine getting a top notch LT next draft like Brickashaw and then setting our OL up for the next decade with this crew? I didn't like the OL pick at the time this year admittedly, but I am having day dreams about it now for next draft....

saintswhodi 10-08-2005 05:08 PM

Although i'd live D'Brick lummox, my next draft day is calling for AJ Hawk or Jimmy Williams or Rod Wright or any other defensive player who is dominating college, outside of a safety. I think Eric Winston may be a good LT call up in the second round, or maybe Stinch really will be able to handle the duties.
