Re: Michael Thomas agrees to restructured contract
Blaming an external factor for why something was anomalous is problematic if that external factor is still present going forward. Our record was bad last year because of bad calls. Michael Thomas was unavailable because of bad doctors. Guess what, we have the same refs and doctors next year. And the refs are mad we complained. And the bad doctors have to be relied on both for the quality of their previous work on existing injuries on players who have already been injured and for the quality of their future work on players who have not been injured yet. They did great diagnosing a cancer with Moreau, and probably if a player got pregnant they would be the only team in the league to catch it, but the specialty where our medical staff really struggles is sports medicine. I wish we could fire the refs. We could fire the doctors. But we didn't. And so, expect the same results, and factor that into all predictions. We can debate all day whether any of this is Michael Thomas' fault or all the medical staffs, but regardless he is like a Formula One race car that has been fully disassembled and reassembled by Tim Allen's character from Home Improvement. I would not bet on everything holding together regardless of whose fault it is. There is just not a precedent for coming back effectively from missing 40 of 50 games due to a series of injures, even under the guidance of doctors who are good at sports medicine, much less under our doctors.

Re: Michael Thomas agrees to restructured contract
Just having Thomas back at practice brings the entire team closer. It's obvious that the players have Mike's back and are ready to have him back on the team. I was mad at him for not being in touch with the team leading up to last year but it's hard to blame him for not trusting the medical staff when they misdiagnose so many injuries or mistreat the few that they correctly diagnose.

Re: Michael Thomas agrees to restructured contract
Okay I normally don’t argue with AG. Mostly because I don’t see his posts unless someone quotes his. Even then I don’t. But I have to here.
Comparing Thomas to Colston? Cmon. They are nothing alike. Colston was a hard working, team first player that was always reliable and seldomly injured. He was quiet on the field and off. He let his game do the talking for him. He was humble and classy. He had heart and that’s what drove him. Michael Thomas is a loud, egotistical show off. He flexes every time he catches the ball, has been seen arguing with staff and players, and doesn’t seem one bit humble. His reliability on and off the field has been sub par in the past several seasons. Money and ego drive Thomas. He may be a hard worker, but that’s where the comparison ends. I’ll take Colston all day over a healthy MT. All day. MT should never be compared to Colston. Ever. |

Besides, there isn't any player that hasn't had an argument at one point or another with a teammate or coach. It's all a part of the game. Ask any player that has played the game for any length of time. If money is what drives Thomas why has he agreed to restructured "prove it" contracts? But, I will agree that ego is a driving force for Thomas. He has always said he has worked so hard his entire football career because he wanted to be the best. He says he knew working harder than anyone else was the only way that could be accomplished. Colston and Thomas are the two WR's that have made the biggest impacts in Saints history. Both have a quiet, unassuming nature in all interviews. Both are known as being diligent workers in mastering their craft. Both are highly regarded by their teammates. I will give you the fact that Colston was far more fortunate when it came to injuries. He had his share with pectoral, knee, back, AC joint, and foot sprains, but they didn't cost him as many games as the more serious injuries with which Thomas had been forced to deal. |
