So Who Do You Want As OC?

Assuming a change is made. I think most of us here do in fact see it happening.

So who's out there? Who would you like to see take over?

Kliff Kingsbury
Zac Ronbsinson
Bill O'Brien

Personally, I think it has to be a strong personality since it's apparent DA isn't nearly as capable as Sean Payton.

Possibly even someone you can give an elevated title/responsibilities such as Asst HC

Don't be surprised if there is a change that one of either Ronald Curry or Dan Roushar ends up with the job.

Brian Johnson - QB coach - Philly. Young guy (35), innovative, played the position & could eventually help mold an incoming QB from the college ranks.

Joe Brady - OC Bills. Another young guy & he's had success with QBs.

I like the idea of Bobby Slowik, 49ers passing game coordinator

Take a look at top OC's/head coaches from the college level, especially Matt Campbell from Iowa State.

I could very easily see the New Orleans Saints going that direction. However, I am of the opinion that they need to bring in an aggressive offensive coordinator who commands the attention from his players like Sean Payton.

I like the idea of going after a young head coach in college who will bring fresh ideas with him. What we have is stale and has been stale for the past couple of years. I fully expect to see quite a few coaching changes this year so that Dennis Allen can keep his job. Out with the old and in with the new. Go Saints!

I hope they give Frank Reich a look.

That would probably satisfy a lot of Saints fans. I'd be happy!

I mentioned Ronald Curry earlier. I guess I'm not the only one.

This Senior Bowl gig will give him great insight into the players.

Possible OC candidate.

What about Briles' kid? Is he worth a look?

Kendall Briles? He just signed on with TCU as their new OC yesterday.

TCU hiring Arkansas' Kendal Briles as new offensive coordinator

Chris Low
ESPN Senior Writer

Kendal Briles is leaving Arkansas to become the offensive coordinator at TCU, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

An official announcement is expected Thursday.

The Razorbacks are finalizing a deal to hire Dan Enos from Maryland to replace Briles as their offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN. Enos has been at Maryland the past two seasons and had a big role in quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa's development.

Briles, 40, has been the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach the past three seasons at Arkansas, which experienced an offensive upheaval under Briles. The Hogs finished 15th nationally in total offense this past season while averaging 32.5 points per game and 30.9 points in 2021, which was the most at Arkansas since the 2015 season. The Hogs averaged just 21.4 points per game in 2019, the year before Briles arrived.

Arkansas was seventh nationally in rushing offense in 2022 (236.5 yards per game). The Hogs' 3,075 rushing yards were their most since the 2003 season. Briles also enhanced Arkansas' passing game and its balance on offense. The Hogs were one of three FBS teams in 2022 (Ole Miss and UCLA the others) to average more than 230 rushing yards and 230 passing yards per game.

Briles replaces Garrett Riley at TCU. Riley left last week to be the offensive coordinator at Clemson. At TCU, Briles joins one of the top offensive-minded head coaches in the country in Sonny Dykes, who's entering his second season in Fort Worth. Dykes took the Horned Frogs to the College Football Playoff national championship game this past season; they lost 65-7 to Georgia.

Lot's of competition out there right now for the position.

Although I would LOVE that replacement at OC, I think Reich is being looked at to HC by a few teams. I don't think we have a shot at that.

If for nothing else, to understand what happened when he took over play calling for the Bucs. At this point, as a guy who has QB'd in the league, he has to have a bit more coaching smarts than Carmichael.

This is why they need to make the move now if they are going to make it. Don't wait until the top half of the candidates are gone before you start interviewing.

I'm beginning to think that they aren't going to make that move. Why cut Roushar and not Carmichael if Carmichael was going to be gone. He was Roushar's boss in the chain of command. He may have been in on that decision.

I tend to agree with you on that. I think if they were going to fire Carmichael they would have done it.

I mentioned this elsewhere, maybe they know that Payton wants to bring Carmichael along as his OC if he takes a job this year and they are just waiting to give their blessing.

It appears "loyalty" is more important than improving, and winning games.

See Bill Johnson, Joe Vitt, and McMahon from years past.

2023 could be rough.

Greg Roman just resigned as OC for the Ravens. Probably got sick of dealing with all of the Lamar Jackson drama.

As for Carmichael, let's not forget he was the play-caller for the entire 2012 season with Payton out of the picture and the offense ended up 3rd in the NFL in points per game and #2 in the league in yards per game. If, for some reason he IS retained, we know he at least HAD the ability to execute the plan on gameday.

That was over 10 years ago. What have you done for me lately? Also, this is not the same team that he called plays for back then either. Maybe Dennis Allen told him not to be aggressive. I don't know. I'm just looking for excuses for the man.

Yep.

Trust me, they (excuses) are coming in 2023.
