Why he is our Franchise Player
 
Saints DE Darren Howard, who had a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, a pass defense and three tackles in the 19-7 victory over Buffalo in the Alamodome last Sunday, was selected as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

I am just giving credit to a guy who produces when he is on the field.

man... you take one game and hang your hate on it. Even the worse player on the team is capable of having a great game and being D player of the week.

Howard is good but injuries have been a problem with him. I think that's why we couldn't get what we wanted on a trade for him. Also I think that has made the team hesistant about signing him long term. So instead we franchised him to give us another year to look at him and another year for him to impress some other team so we can trade him. I don't think he will be with the team after 2006 season but you never know. After all this is the Saints. There are a lot of people who analyse football teams and get a healthy check for doing it and all of them are pretty much dumbfounded when it comes to predicting anything about the Saints. We keep em guessing cause we are g uessing ourselves.
