I think 2018 was the best team and we were clearly the best team in the league. Damn refs screwed us.

I know this wasn't one of the options however my uncle/dad would argue that the 1992 (#1 overall defense) Saints team :bng:.

If only the Cowboys and Niners weren't "dynasties" back then :disgust:...

Re: Beast Saints Team

The 2011 team to this day pisses me off.

They got hot at just the right time, think we won 9 straight and were unbeaten at home.
The final few home games they scored 40+ points in a row.

Then they turned the ball over 5 times Vs the 9ers and still should have won.

The D really **** the bed in the 4th quarter, Malcolm Jenkins getting beaten for a long completion on 3rd or 4th down makes me sick to this day.

The 2018 team, the D was incredible but Drew was really holding the offense back when we got into the playoffs. The reason the Rams game was even close was because our entire playbook was flare pass to Kamara or Slant to Thomas.

09 team had it all, even the luck that it takes in certain situations.

Re: Beast Saints Team

It's hard not to pick the 2009 team. Great offense. Average defense that was opportunistic with interceptions and fumble recoveries. And most importantly, that team won the Superbowl.
The 2011 team had an offense like I'd never seen. It was as if they could score at will. The Niners were plain mean in the playoff game that ended the Saints season that year.
The 2018 team seemed to be the most complete team, in my opinion. I still don't want to talk about the playoff game against the Rams-- it was so egregious.

I remember Harper being the worst player on the field in that game. It might've been Gregg Williams putting him in bad situations but if I recall,
the big TE receptions and the Smith QB TD run were on Harper.

Taking PT out with the helmet to helmet hit really set the tone and crippled the Saints that day. (Why did the refs let Whitner take a head shot like that and not penalize him?)

So the TD to Vernon Davis was between Shanle and Harper, but the long conversion to Davis for about 50 yards on 3rd or 4th down was against Jenkins. Literally they just had to hold them for that one play and we'd win.

I would post the video but I don't want to vomit lol

And yeah the helmet hit on PT was BS, they just let him get away with it and they called it "tough defense"

Edit - just watched it, nearly vomited.

9ers at their own 30 yard line, with 40 seconds to go on 2nd and 10.
Man coverage by Jenkins against Davis, Jenkins gets beat and eventually tackles Davis at Our 15 yard line.

Besides 09, this team has not been able to finish playoff games. They just collapse under pressure.

If you put the ‘09 Brees on the 2018 team then that’s the best one.

Rickey Jackson has chimed in once or twice that if the Saints had the offense under Brees, any of them, and the Dome Patrol defense, we're seeing multiple Tiffanys on Poydras St.

Even so I think the 18 team is the best. In 09 we were underdogs in the SB. We would not have been against Pats in 2018. Everyone knew we were the best team and it took a blatant NFL screw job to keep us from proving it. 2009 is my favorite team, but it’s not the best. It took Ambush and a big pick 6 to win that SB. 2018 would have crushed the Pats. Pats fans up here fully admit that.

The Saints offense in 1992 had RB Vaughn Dunbar and Ironhead in the backfield, Quinn Early and Eric Martin as WR's and Hoby Brenner? The O-line wasn't too shabby either.
Damn right Brees would've won at least one Superbowl with that team.

Hate to get some of the old heads mad but my uncle consistently blamed offensive coordinator Carl Smith for being too "predictable" in key moments.

0-4 in the playoffs gotta sting :bng:

So Mr QB Choke in crucial moments had nothing to do with this?

I wonder why he won't talk about it much since he's on the radio now covering the very team he used to play for?

Bounced around the league (QB coach) for years but he's an assistant HC with Seattle as of now.

And Hazlett is coaching an XFL/USFL team now. At least Carl is still in the league. If he did help Geno Smith in Seattle, maybe he's not so bad after all.

Right.

And he's been so critical of QBs (even Brees) in NOLA over the years.

Forget "Cajun Cannon", I prefer "Mr. Choke" as well :p.

Aikman has a radio show up here & he quite often mentions players & teams he hated playing. Giants (Lawrence Taylor & Co) & of course the Saint's entire LB core & swarming secondary.

Too bad Bobby Hebert never had that killer instinct in the postseason @ QB because the defense was legit.

Re: Beast Saints Team

I would say the best Saints team was the one that beat 3 HOF QBs in Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning to win the Super Bowl, not the other good teams that were eliminated from the playoffs by the likes of Alex Smith or Jared Goff + Refs. The 2nd best Saints team was eliminated by Jared Goff + Refs but the 2009 team would not have let it be so close against a middle of the road QB and obviously had a more prime Brees. The 2011 team was all finesse and not ideally suited for playoff slugfests. Sometimes finesse teams win it all but a slugfest with SF was not good for us.

We need a better mix of smash mouth football and finesse to win championships. Payton played smash mouth football in the trenches and was successful though.

With all due respect to the Super Bowl championship team, and your opinion bako, I believe you are over playing the Hall of Fame angle from that season with respect to the playoffs. Kurt Warner was a shadow of his former self, and his team was 10 and 5 in 2018. The Jeff goff-lead Rams were 13 -3 and by most measurable statistics he had a much better year in 2018 than Kurt Warner did in 2009. I’m not trying to be argumentative, but you’re blowing off the impact that the refs had on the playoff game is incorrect in my opinion. If the Saints don’t get that call against them, they win their second Super Bowl and their legacy changes. Just my opinion of course. I think the 2018 team would have beat the 2009 team.

And Kurt Warner is still a little salty with regards to Saints.

I would be as well. The hit was clean because the QB is just another player on the field after he throws an interception.
Man... He got wrecked.

Hit me up next time and I'll fix it for you. TBH, Halo should let thread starters fix/edit their own titles. Maybe that'll happen in the soon to come update.

But in the spirit of Foreverfan, hard to fix a titles with "breasts" in the title.

Funny enough, I thought of Foreverfan when I made the breast comment. I know that he'd have taken advantage of the opportunity and posted some interesting pictures.
