Will Raiders Trade For Jameis Winston?

Jimmy G. failed his physical and Raiders are seemingly out of options other than tanking. Strong likelihood his contract is voided , although you wonder why it was not caught earlier. If not the Raiders, will a team trade for Jameis this year? What compensation would represent fair value?

It would take a 2nd rounder to get him from me if I were running the Saints.

Let's see what the Raiders have at LB...
I'm with you. We should get draft capital from them. I've never even heard of the guys they have at LB.

Is Renfroe part of the compensation?

Losing Winston would leave us with Haener & Taysom?

If the Saints are even remotely interested, better tighten up
that O line and keep DCarr out of trouble.

Having a quality backup (who can win a game or two) QB at this level
is hard to do.

Winston and 3Quan for Davante.

If nothing else, it was fun to type that sentence.

Isn't part of the challenge with Renfro and Hopkins the salary? Not worth it at their age prolly .

As far as a quality backup QB, we'll see shortly on GQ Jake Haener .

Winston and Peat for a decent guard? Also willing to move Taysom if they prefer that option. But also they could call Matt Ryan or else Cats could move Dalton. Also Carson Wentz is a free agent.

Injuries have been the wildcard for the last several years with our team. I would hold onto Winston until the season is over. Hill and Haener possibly could step in if Carr gets hurt, but I like our chances of hanging in there better with Jameis as QB. Just my take.

I would take anyone over JW. If we can get anything for him I’ll pack for him

Re: Will Raiders Trade For Jameis Winston?

Carr is the QB we were looking for. He is much better than anyone realizes. This is a guy you can win Super Bowls with and if you put him in the right position will win Super Bowls. Carr has the potential to get a HoF bust imo, just nobody realizes it quite yet cause he's been in football hell for so long. Quite frankly, it's kind of amazing he performed as he did in Oakland/LV considering the situation there. This season will cement him as the guy and we won't be worried about QBs anymore. I'm telling you... Brees 2.0. He's not the same player in terms of what they actually do, but the way we picked him up off the free-agent market is similar. If we send Winston to the Raiders, and we get resources from that, then the Raiders will have officially got fleeced. If Carr gets hurt, I'd prefer to go with Taysom or something; anything but Winston. I don't think Allen and Carmichael are creative enough to win with a QB like Winston(or some other middle-of-the-road QB) like Payton was(this does not mean I don't think that we can win with Allen or Carmichael though). Allen is hyper-logical in how he approaches football, he's definitely not bad. He's just not as good as Payton. Payton just had a wisdom about him that we don't have on our coaching staff anymore. It's like he knew what to do often at the right time. I really miss having that. Allen is more like playing the odds.

If Winston is dealt, I don't see the Saints getting more than a 7th round pick for him, or maybe a reserve player that has a 50/50 chance at making the roster. If he is dealt, I would imagine the Saints would probably reach out to Chase Daniel or Teddy Bridgewater to fill the primary backup role.

I would trust both of those guys as backups before JW. We've hit home runs in the 7th round before. Getting any compensation for him would be great.

Jameis was 5-2 before his injury.

Don't discount having a solid backup!

Precisely.

See Raiders/Jimmy G's situation. There's a good chance he won't be healthy at all this season.

Good luck winning games with Brian Hoyer as your "backup".

Not only here in this piece, but I'm hearing from other sources that the whole foot deal is nothing unexpected (that's why the waiver was written into the deal in the first place) and that those involved are expecting Garoppolo to be ready by opening week. I doubt the Raiders are going to suddenly decide to spend any sort of substantial resources to pick up a starting caliber QB like Winston at this point. They could be wrong, but I think it is mostly media hype.

I know a lot of people have their minds made up about Winston and that’s understandable. But consider he is still only 29 and he’s got a great arm that put up a 5,000 yard season. If I were the Raiders or any team I’d take a chance on him over washed up Ryan, Wentz, or a guy like Dalton who never put up a 30+ TD season. I’m glad we signed Car, but I think JW still has a viable place in the NFL.

I agree completely. I think there's a good chance Winston ends up with a QB needy team sometime before the trade deadline. I just don't think the Raiders are that team. The Raiders knew exactly what they were getting with Garoppolo. They were aware that a procedure was needed on that foot. If they were that concerned they would have already made some move. But, injuries happen every season. Someone will lose a starting QB for an extended period. It happens every year. The Saints should be ready to take advantage of that situation with Winston.

Winston has value to this team. But I'm thinking it's his trade value that will benefit the team most this year. I agree that Carmichael may not know how to game plan for Winston and his tendencies as well as he did with Drew. Last year the team didn't seem confident in Winston and it showed in the play calls. Winston was at his best when Payton was coaching him and making him wear blinders like a race horse while he was micro managed.

Also may never know how much a part his injury played in things.

I used to have a true disdain for Jameis Winston but he really seems to have made big changes in his life. It's not an overstatement that I say that I'm proud of the man.

Saints: Jameis Winston Is 'Ready To Uplift' Derek Carr; Still 'One of Those 32' Starters
Quote:

Not every former first-overall draft pick, nor starting quarterback, is capable of handling being relegated to a backup role, then watching the franchise offer a multi-million deal and coach's vote of confidence to the new starter. However, Jameis Winston has handled the situation with grace and has been very supportive of Derek Carr since he arrived in New Orleans.

Saints need more depth on the Oline. The NFL is a grind.

I’d listen to all trade scenarios but I’d hate to
lose a quality backup (JW) that has proven he can win games.

The offensive line already took a big hit and I won't be surprised to see us sign another big ugly soon.
