Which former Saint player do you miss the most?

Please try not to go too far over 10 years back. For instance, even though you might miss Archie Manning, Bobbie Hebert, or Eric Martin, it's a moot point to discuss any of them at this point.

Other than that, anybody is fair game. Whether it's "that Carolina QB" that you miss, or whether it's Toby Gowin, discuss

(a) the player you miss most

(b) why you miss him.

----------------------

(a) Had alot of good choices here, but it came down to Willie Roaf and Willie Jackson. When the dust settled, I chose Willie Jackson

(b) Willie Jackson, despite not being a real speed burner, always seemed to find ways to get open..........and more importantly, he was a major deep threat. It would have been much tougher to defeat the Rams in the '00 Wildcard game, as well as in the '01 regular season, without Willie Jackson on the team. As good as our WR's are right now....I dare say we have never really been able to replace the deep threat capabilites of Willie Jax. I'm hoping Devery takes that role.

I later heard several derrogatory terms thrown around about Willie Jax, such as "locker room cancer" and things of that nature. Can anyone give me the 411 on this guy, and let me know what was so unbearable about him that we couldn't keep him around?

Tobias-Reiper 10-08-2005 10:08 AM

... I would've asked "other than the Carolina QB", otherwise you know where this is going to end...

On offense, Willie Roaf for obvious reasons.
On defense, Sammy Knight. He always seemed to make a play when needed.

BoudinSandwich 10-08-2005 12:11 PM

I agree with Sammy Knight. He was probably my favorite recent football player to wear the black and gold. He was one of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL and always came up with big plays. He was a ball-hawk.

D_it_up 10-08-2005 12:17 PM

Player I miss the most?: LeRoi Glover

Why? Isn't it obvious? We haven't had a DT worth spitting on since he left. 'Nuff said!

BoudinSandwich 10-08-2005 12:26 PM

I definately miss Glover, Roaf, Fontenot, Hand, Pathon, maybe even Grady Jackson. I don't care about the weight issue. Atleast our defense could clog things up back then. Notably, most of these players are linemen. I almost dare take Turley back. Granted, he is a tumor, but he wasn't THAT controversial here(though, he did have his moments.) The fact is, he could play. Our offensive line is hurting right now. I admit, give them a year or two and they'll gel together. I just don't like waiting.

BoudinSandwich 10-08-2005 02:20 PM

We all miss Jackson and Mills, but the thread was intended for younger players.

chRxis 10-08-2005 03:49 PM

bobby hebert b/c he's from not too far from where i grew up, he went to the same college i went to, and most of all, he led the saints to the playoffs... i know ppl are going to say "well, aaron led the saints to the playoffs".... bullsh#t.... jeff blake led the saints, and aaron basically came in and tried not to screw it up... when he came in that year we were already sitting pretty for a playoff spot, so he didn't do anything spectacular IMO

SapperSaint 10-09-2005 12:27 AM

I do not miss Roaf. He had given up on the team and basiclly quit. So as far as I'm concerened he can "Stick It".
I miss Sammy, we should have kept him.

As far as older players.....Jackson, Mills, and Dalton.

frankeefrank 10-09-2005 01:54 AM

I miss...

I MISS Sam Mills...

If you're talking about players we can use...

Terrell Smith or Jerry Fontenot
It's an unpopular vote, but those guys were apart of a special offense.
running and passing

Saint_LB 10-09-2005 02:50 AM

This is a really stupid thread. Why didn't you just say anyone who is older than, say, 30, not even bother to participate? For some reason you have always wanted to separate the Saints of the last decade with the teams prior to that? Why would it be a "moot" point to discuss someone like Archie. I would imagine people know more about Archie and his family than most any of today's regulars.

Billy, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that you are "the Gambler", and I thought this site had banned you. Guess not.

iceshack149 10-09-2005 04:38 AM

Duece McAllister. I know it's only four games into the season but I saw things from him in 2003 that made me say "wow!" I haven't seen that this season.

Wow, there's some pent up anger there.

Maybe I should have been more specific with the goal of the thread. Sure, we could discuss Hebert or Archie Manning, but what good would they be for us RIGHT NOW? That's why I tried to keep it not much further back than 10 years. For instance, guys like Lorenzo Neal, Jake Delhomme, Sammy Knight, Willie Roaf, etc are all guys who are still of playing age in this league. Even WIllie Jackson, who as best I can tell isn't on anyone's active roster, is still of a reasonable playing age at the moment.

Jerry is not an unpopular vote......I don't understand why he couldn't make the final roster last year even as a backup...

Deuce would probably agree with you about Terrell also..

... well, I gotta tell you, what you say makes no sense either, since no one anyone mentions will play for the Saints again in the near future, if ever...

...Roaf is not coming back, Jake is not coming back, Sammy Knight is not coming back, Fontenot is not coming back...

what the thread amounts to is wishful thinking, and as long as we are thinking wishfully, why not go as far back as we want?

ScottyRo 10-09-2005 11:51 PM

Eric Martin.

You make a good point, but really, this isn't brain surgery. It's a chance for people to name a fairly recent player from the Saints team who they MISS HAVING AROUND THE MOST. The key word is "miss". Why would anyone "miss" Archie Manning right now? Or Tom Dempsey? To me, when you miss having a player around, you miss having that player AT HIS PLAYING AGE. Steelers fans probably loved Bradshaw, Franco, and Mean Joe Green in the 70s, but they woudln't want to see them signed by the team today!

So would it do any good to miss Sammy Knight or Delhomme? Not really. But still, they could physically (not contractually) come in right now at their ages and play at a decent level for the New Orleans Saints. Archie and Tom Dempsey can not.

Really, it's not that complicated.

My my, half wit. Last week we were above everyone else on the board and only "stooped low" when we had to. Yet another lie. Your whole facade is crumbling.

Aren't you lying when you said that I was "above everyone else?"

Where did I ever say that. As Chris Griffin would say: LIAR!!!!!!! I"m above you and that other jerk............but you 2 don't constitute "everyone" by any means. Just last week you got onto me about interrupitng your thread with nonsense....and yet you did the same thing in THIS thread of mine. But I woudl't dare accuse you of trying to stir the pot in this thread, because you NEVER do anything WRONG WHATSOEVER.

Anyway, take your Eddie Haskell routine elsewhere.

TheGambler 10-10-2005 11:33 AM

Double post

saintswhodi 10-10-2005 11:35 AM

I responded to Saints LB, you responded to me. See the difference? In other threads, you respond TO ME, see the difference? Is there an ounce of truth in you? Yet even when I responded to LB, I didn't feel the need to name call you. But of course, that's above you. Have a nice day. :D

And yet the question still stands, liar, where did I ever claim to be "above everyone"?

Nobody is stupid. Your "reply" was an obvious attempt to encourage his idiotic behavior. If you hand't replied at all, then you woudln't have been called out on anything, now would you? And yet, in your idiotic mind, you feel as though you've done nothing wrong, as usual.

Last week you repeatedly embarrassed yourself by behaving similarly. Save yourself some trouble and just drop it.

saintswhodi 10-10-2005 11:49 AM

LMAO. Embarrassed myself? Kid, you're a liar, who posted threads that proved he was one. Yet somehow you think attempting to call me one will make you look justified? Pathetic. Did it hurt your feelings I posted to someone else so you HAD to post to me? Try this, if I don't post to you, don't post to me. I GUARANTEE there is no way in hell you can avoid posting to me and getting smacked down as normal. But I also guarantee you this, if you do not post to me, I will not post one word to you. And I will put $100 on that right now. Since you are "above it" put your money where your mouth is. Or you can just keep lying and having it displayed. Either way.

Your "reply" was an obvious attempt to encourage his idiotic behavior

Cause you don't agree with LB it was idiotic behavior? Yeah, I see how you are so "above it." LMAO!!!

TheGambler 10-10-2005 11:51 AM

By the way, I'm going to play your little game:

This was my reply to you. Name one thing I said in this thread that isn't true. I said you interrupted my thread with NONSENSE (Go Get em Saint LB! , followed by some moronic emoticon), and you did. Name one thing in this thread that is a "lie".

Nevertheless, you replied with:

What do the specifics of "who replied to who" have to do with lying?

From now on, I"m going to start calling you out on your BS accusations. This crap you normally pull isn't gonna fly anymore.

TheGambler 10-10-2005 12:22 PM

I find it pretty amazing that nobody seemed to have a real problem with this thread until a few select individuals had to chime in.

saintswhodi 10-10-2005 12:25 PM

So no on the $100 bet? I didn't think so.

Nice attempt at deflecting from everything I said.

Anyway, if you don't want to see my replies, just put me on ignore. I am strongly considering doing so with you.

In fact. You know what? I'm done considering. You will never have to worry about seeing my replies, because as of this moment you are now on ignore. After all, you can't possibly be a problem if you're not there, right?

Poof.
