What We Learned From the First Week of Saints Camp

The Pass Rush Looks Promising

I'm not telling you to get super excited yet, but the first week had a bit of everything from everyone at defensive end. When the pads come on, we'll get to see it more. However, be encouraged that Cam Jordan is still making plays that Cam Jordan makes. Be encouraged that Carl Granderson had a killer day of practice recently. Tanoh Kpassagnon is showing up too, as well as someone else we'll discuss short. Isaiah Foskey is coming along more, as we touched on in our notes from Saturday.

Stock Up
Payton Turner - It's a big year for the former first-rounder, and he's well aware of that. He's been in the Saints offseason program from the start, which has helped a great bit. Turner has made several plays each day, and with the pads coming on, we're eager to see if he keeps it going.

Like What I'm Seeing, Want More
Jake Haener - The rookie is leaps and bounds more comfortable than anything we ever saw out of Ian Book. Haener is seeing the field and making decisions, not just taking off running the ball or going for the checkdowns, you can see that he's coming along.

Pre season games …

This is what I’m waiting for.

You can only see so much at practice.

Foskey, AT Perry, Bresee, Jake, Kendre, among others.

See what they can do once the bullets start flying against
another opponent.

Will "pretty boy" Haener make Jameis a tradeable asset?

Slow down brother :bng: ...

Practice is one thing but he needs to show some consistency in pre-season games.

I think it is more the fact that Hill is still in the house that makes Jameis a tradeable asset. A good showing by Haener certainly doesn't hurt the perception either. Jameis wants a chance to start. Little doubt he'd be chomping at the bit for a chance to be traded. Until that happens, if it does, I would expect him to continue to do the best he can do to show his worth.

K 2 years ago we were visiting a cousin and family who lived in Fresno CA. They had a Granddaughter on cheer squad at Fresno State. In Fresno purely by coincidence and timing, a Fresno State home game was schedule for that week. No idea who, what only we were there and we went to she Amelia cheer.

Watch the first half and the only reason I knew Haener was the QB was because I had a program. My cousins husband told about Haener’s love of all things Brees … ok nice story.

Move forward 2 years and when I heard the Saints had him on the radar my only hope was he lasted long enough where we could address a developmental QB in a later draft round. Longshot with our most pressing needs.

The next step playing in the NFL is always an adjustment to the speed and physicality of the game. On that Saturday I saw QB that had pocket presence, command of his offense, could make just about any throw standing in the pocket or scrambling.

First step in his journey with the Saints has been very encouraging, he seems to have picked up the offense and language and seems to be on solid ground out there.

Time will tell but by happenstance I saw this young man playing the game and he showed he had the “IT” factor.

If he were 6’2” - 6’4” even playing at Fresno State he would probably been 1st round/early 2nd round material. Caution opinion.:D
