Observations from Saint's Loss vs Texans

Last preseason game comes to an end.

Tough cuts coming. Too close to call for some.

Haener has moxy, but needs to use more targets than just Krull. Texans weren't playing nice with the blitzes. It was nonetheless a good way to evaluate guys.

It's for real next time fellahs and fellettes !

If by “moxy” you mean little future in the league I agree.

Haener would’ve set the record for INT’s in a game if playing against starters.

Miller better figure out how to get **** going ASAP. Averaging 1.8 yard’s basically all of preseason isn’t going to help. Also runs straight in to the would be defender and let’s

He had some tunnel vision BAD in the last 6 minutes. Krull, Krull, and more Krull. Not reading his progressions and trying to hit a home run when their D was giving away other options made zero sense. Their secondary was all over Krull in that last 1:30, but he kept trying to force feed him. Haener's immaturity showed big time. Kinda disappointing, but he's a rookie.

Bresee showed nice quickness and 2 awesome spin moves.

Was nice to see him and Foskey collapse the pocket

Haener has a lot to learn, but I don't think we should be so quick to give up on him. I don't think he's going to ever be our guy, but learning how to deal with certain things that are thrown at you in the NFL can take some adjusting time, so I'm crossing my fingers that he can develop into something. I don't think we have a backup QB that I trust right now. It could be a real problem.

Haener is a tough guy, not ready to be a number 2 option yet. That decision making late in the game was disheartening. Krull had an okay game, not enough to get a roster spot. Very strong practice squad candidate if no one else claims him. The 3 game loss of Kamara may sting a little harder than first thought, Miller doesn't appear to be a great replacement yet, of course he may look great once the regulars are playing, we shall see.

Keep in mind he would have also had the starting offensive line protecting him instead of the bottom of the barrel that will be on the streets as early as today.

Pray that the O line stays somewhat healthy.

Peat is only serviceable. Our depth is spotty (Kidd/Saldiveri).

Blake G looked better.

I know some want to run Winston out of town but Haener is #3 right now.

Real football 🏈 begins in 2 weeks, can’t wait.

My take away from Haener’s performance last night, 🤷, that said the level of Oline play was awful.

We left for the hotel not long after the 3rd quarter ended it seemed that the Oline was using the current “Open Borders Policy” for their blocking scheme. Whether it was communication, skill level or full bore pressure defense whatever grouping or combination of our Oline personnel they were not up to the task. it was not a matter if someONE was pressuring the QB but how many. Miller and Merriweather were being met in the backfield or at best the line scrimmage.

Either Houston’s down side of roster players are significantly better than the Saints, possibly but not so much in 2 previous games. Or possibly Houston gave more of their potential 1’s and 2’s more playing time trying to better evaluate their roster’s best 53 thru 60.

Went to see Haener probably last chance till next offseason running an offense. Not ready for prime time but with time the guy moves well, lively arm, stands and take a hit and gets back up. Didn’t see most of the 4th quarter put he was working thru his reads when he had the time.

Side note, when the first quarter ended and teams swap sides, Peat took almost the entire commercial break to walk to the opposite end of the playing field. Look like a man in need of a samich or 2.

My TE's: - Juwan, Foster and Jimmy G.

You can't coach 6'7 in the redzone. That basketball background comes in handy with those shorter DBs trying to defend him.

Krull is too inconsistent with pass catching. He needs more development.

Re: Observations from Saint's Loss vs Texans

Jimmy is still a serious red zone target. O-line depth scares the crap out of me. Fairly clean game from a penalty perspective. Krull was Haener's favorite target and may be targeted on a new team after cuts. He had a really good game and it will be hard to sneak him onto the practice squad.

Krull hold make the team. He definitely has an upside. Love Graham. His situational value doesn't overtake Krulls overall value. Hafner is a project at best. 70/30 he's never more than a backup in the NFL. Winston was equally bad last night. The reserve OLine is atrocious. The Saints were crazy lucky to sign J. Smith. He will play and make plays for the Saints this season. No reserve secondarily people stood out at all. A crazy idea. Bulk Lalos up and make him a guard. I believe he would be all pro. 😁

Re: Observations from Saint's Loss vs Texans

* Jimmy Graham looked like Jimmy Graham. The size and ability to use his body to shield the ball from defenders are still there.

* Kendre Miller looks like a young Mark Ingram - quite the burst but unable to find a hole to save his life.

* Isaiah Foskey looks like he is just loafing around out on the field. It might just be his natural movement scheme but it comes off as slow and dull. He had that one great play with the sack but I didn't see a lot of pass rush moves from him.

* Bryan Bresee - Big BB - I like the look of this cat. Nimble feet, good moves. Anchoring the line against the run with a low base. If he shows up on sundays like this... whoa.

* Jake Haener - Pretty mixes showing against the Texans. Some good throws and some quite horrible. He has me kinda excited thou 'cause the good looks really good. He is nowhere near to beating out JW yet.

* O-line looked atrocious in the run game. Peat might lose his spot midway trough the season if Nick Saldiveri keeps improving.

* The TE room looks better than in a long time.

* WR group looks pretty deep. I think we will end up with #4-5 WRs that would be #3 on some other teams.

* I strongly believe that the kicker we'll end up cutting will start for another team.

Re: Observations from Saint's Loss vs Texans

Krull's drops yesterday not only cost him a spot on the Saints initial roster, but it may have cost him a chance at the 53 on any other roster. He'll probably be there again for the practice squad after waivers. He was targeted 15 times and had seven catches. That's less than a 50% catch ratio. That sucks. Drops haunted him last year and he hasn't done anything to improve.
