Re: Lutz trades to SP
Sean Payton hasn't stopped bringing in reinforcements from his old shop.
The Denver Broncos have traded for kicker Wil Lutz from the New Orleans Saints, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, per a source. Lutz, 29, has spent his entire playing career with the Saints and was among the best kickers in the NFL during Payton's time there. In 2019, the Saints signed Lutz to a five-year extension. "New Orleans, thank you for the best 7 years of my life," Lutz wrote in a post Tuesday on social media. https://www.nfl.com/news/broncos-acq...aints-in-trade |

Wish Lutz the best, quality guy … At the end of the day it’s just business … Grupe has shown he has the ability, poise and confidence, all the traits needed for a long successful career with Who Dat Nation.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
Wish Lutz all the best, he made some big time kicks for us over the year, a ton of game winners. Definitely added some stability to the position.
He definitely hasn't been as consistent since the injury, his short kicks especially zig zag all over the place. |
Re: Lutz trades to SP
SP getting into DA’s head and Pearla needs to shut his trap and focus on not getting blind sided.

I'm surprised, but can't fault them for going younger, especially after Lutz averaged making just over 74% of his kicks last season.. |
Re: Lutz trades to SP
Grupe was impressive. Lets see in the really tough games.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
I posted this July 22nd this year about Lutz…
“It also would be nice if a younger, healthier, less expensive kicker, came along and clearly outperform him and becomes our next kicker of the future. A guy like Koo in Atlanta can go along way to winning you an extra two or three ball games. What wouldn’t be nice would be another year of sub-par kicking-both place kicker and punter. Special teams need to step up if the team is going to win.” Let’s see what happens. |

Lutz' Agent:
"He Didn't lose his job" No Numbnutz, we moved on. Best of Luck Mr.Lutz May the Altitude caress your balls. Onward Edit this🖕 |
Re: Lutz trades to SP
Will Lutz lost accuracy each year and was just OK before his injury. We got value for him and I'm fine with that. Kick 'em straight son.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
And our other ex-kicker ...

Re: Lutz trades to SP
Lutz at one point was right there at the top of the league. I trusted him on every single kick. He just hasn't been the same since the injury. I'm hoping he improves cause the guy has the goods upstairs. Intelligent guy who performs well in the clutch.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
I'm not so sure the new punter is an upgrade though.

On Nick's last podcast, he used the word "inconsistent" a bit when describing the new guy. If he starts shanking em, he won't last very long. What's crazy on Blake is that 2 seasons ago, he was considered one of the best punters in the league. Fast forward to now, he's fallen off badly. |

Looks like Sean building a football team :beatnik:
Will the Saints be the Farm Team for the rest of the league again  |
Re: Lutz trades to SP
He might even be a better kicker in the mile high stadium. Thin air helps the ball travel farther. Although, if you've ever kicked a ball in cold weather it doe feel like kicking a big rock.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
If Grupe does what he did in training camp and works on his long kicks over 60 yards I won't miss Lutz too much.
|
Re: Lutz trades to SP
I like giving the kid a chance. Here's hoping he sets a league record for extra points. 😁

Re: Lutz trades to SP
I wonder if Grupe and Headley were each others holders in training camp. Honestly the punter battle was so close that it could come down to skill/familiarity as a holder. Also, if Hill is going to be our gameday #2 QB not Winston with the new rule, that could change some dynamics if either of them were the preferred holder for anyone else. It's best if everyone is on the same page.

Re: Lutz trades to SP
I believe Headley will be on a short leash.
He didn't exactly light it up at training camp or in preseason games. My guy Blake G just had too many 20-yard shanks  . I cannot emphasize enough how critical special teams play & field position will become down the stretch. |
