Football is fun again for Saints QB Derek Carr. Now comes the hard part: Keeping it that way.
1 Attachment(s)
His nose was so close to the grindstone, Derek Carr did not notice the subtle but meaningful part of his transition to this new life.
Maybe it's because there was so much newness — new city, new franchise, new teammates, new coaches, new offense, new verbiage, new climate, new, new, new, new. His job is too important to let that novelty linger, to let it eventually become a crutch or excuse, so Carr buried himself in the work of making it all feel familiar. It was Heather Carr who pulled her husband’s focus away from the details a few weeks into his first training camp with the New Orleans Saints so he could see the broader picture. When they made the seismic decision to uproot their lives and move to New Orleans, it wasn’t just for money or glory. https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...=crop%2Cresize Look how much fun you’re having again, she said. "She said it to me, and I was like, ‘You know what? You're right,’" Carr said. "I really enjoy this building. What they have created here is special." more here |

A good interview here with Carr.

Now it's all about how they respond.
Titans were two blown plays away from winning this thing. My view is that week one is now essentially preseason game 4 with starters so expect a slop-fest. However there are serious concerns that can be exploited and it's all fun and game now but if those aren't cleaned up it'll be a long season... Excited to see how this team bounces back on the road in prime time against a division foe. |

I've been so excited this entire Offseason about getting him and then that play.
Shid. Freaking run. Run! |

Winning is fun! Losing....not so much. Welcome to New Orleans.

Offense is performing exactly how I thought they would. A lot of "new" to consider when starting this season. At least they've shown the intestinal fortitude to win in the end. Let's see how we contain Love and protect Carr next week. |

Now this is another telling stat. Carr never had even a halfway decent defense with the Raiders. They were always horrible.

We need the offense to play better.
Our defense is playing amazing but it can't all be on them. Carr needs more time and a couple of his throws showed timing off with receivers. He's made big plays, but we need actual TD's. 1 TD and 2 ints on the season so far. That needs to be fixed. |

Comparing an average NFL QB to guys who are proven in post season. All Hall of Famers at that. |

Archie never won a damn thing ever, except NFL MVP. But I'd call him a great QB.
Sometimes good QB's are on crappy teams, sometimes bad QB's are on good teams. I think Carr is an above average QB at best, but on a good team that can win some big games for you. |

Shaquille O'Neal had more 3 pointers by his third year in the NBA than any player in the league had in their career by the end of the 1978-1979 NBA season. Payton Turner's career sacks total would have led the NFL all time list in 1981. The game has changed. Sometimes you can't compare stats decades apart if the rules were not the same.
