Could Falcons Pursue a Trade for Tre'Quan Smith?

I can't see this within the division, but ...

Well, I believe you have to at least listen to every offer... but I can't see helping out a division rival either.

Unless the Saints feel they have the depth to spare him and the Falcons offer a decent draft pick.

Personally I think it's just a bogus clickbait rumor, but interesting discussion. Perhaps one of the TE's could fill the hole he'd leave. None of the WR's brought in through free agency or draft had a comparable skillset.

I’d take a hot-pocket and a used bandaid.

Why … Do the Failclowns need a semi permanent player on Injured Reserve List.

I have wanted to see us cut 3Q for years, but I've come to the conclusion that until we can find a better blocker than our rookie class he's got value to the Saints. The last game showed why 3Q is still on the roster. No one else can block! :awe:

He was a better blocker than the vets they brought in, too ... Washington and Edwards.

Trequan Smith had 0 quality blocks this preseason. There is a reason the position is called wide receiver not wide blocker. He is inconsistent as a receiver. He can't stay healthy. Every receiver we have blocked better than him this preseason because they played. I would be willing to trade him to the Falcons for a 2025 7th round pick and send back a conditional 6th round pick to the Falcons if Smith plays at least 30% of their offensive snaps against us this year. I would do anything possible to put him in a Falcons uniform.

I’d take a bag of sammiches to help feed Peat for Tre.

The one thing I will disagree with in your post bako is your point about him staying healthy. Compared to the amount of injuries we’ve had at other wide receiver options like Thomas and Jarvis Landry, etc. Smith has been very available. There were games when he was our best option even last year, when Olave was out with his concussions. I don’t think it’s necessarily his blocking that keeps him on the team, it’s the fact that he’s the one receiver that we’ve had consistently that knows the system. It is available to play over the last five years.

Yup. Tre'Quan has played more games over the past five years than any other WR. He knows the system. He apparently fulfills the duties asked of him from his coaching staff better than any other WR brought in over the years.

In his 5 seasons Trequan Smith has played 15, 11, 14, 11, and 15 games. He always misses time. This would be ok if he was good, but he isn't. He has been a constant presence only because we have kept him out of increasing charity. Some homeless are a constant presence at a certain street corner, but that does not mean their presence is adding value. Could he be the the best receiver on our team for a stretch if everyone else is hurt? I guess. But what will that get us, a lower draft pick? We ain't winning anything with Smith as our #1.

If we want to stop having injuries as an excuse, we need to stop reserving roster spots for marginal players who get hurt every year. If we want to continue having injuries as a convenient excuse for losing, Smith is fulfilling duties asked of him from his coaching staff better than any other WR brought in over the years.

Show me a Saints WR who has been healthier or played more games during that span. He has been the most “available” WR on the team since he joined. That’s a fact.

Facts do not seem to matter, Boston.

Smith has never been claimed to be a #1. Hell, or a #2, for that matter. That isn't his role. Has he been forced into it because of injuries to other WR's? Yes. Did he live up to the production of the injured players he replaced? No. Nor should it be expected. Tre'Quan is what he is and that is something the team sees value in having. There are 53 players on the roster and they all have unique roles.

I will guarantee you this, having Tre'Quan miss those handful of games over the past five years had far less of an impact on any Saints loss than the absence of players he was forced to replace.
