Kicker

Not only did Grupe shine, Lutz missed his first Bronco XP.

Re: Kicker

And all of Grupes kicks were nice, controlled, up and straight down the middle.

Even when Lutz makes a kick, it zig zags all over the place

Re: Kicker

And we got a 7th rounder for him. Isn't that beautiful ?

And he missed a field goal

Re: Kicker

I never liked Lutz. He had one good year and got lucky on a few long ones but he was inconsistent. Not a lot of pressure when the coach throws you out there to make a kick everyone expects you to miss.

And his team took an L.

Re: Kicker

And now the Broncos lose by 1 after Lutz misses an XP and a field goal. Glad to get that pick.

By 1 point no less.

Re: Kicker

Had we traded Grupe to Denver and kept Lutz, Payton would have won 20-17 with the made XP and made 50+ FG and we would have lost 15-12 with the missed XP and missed 50+ FG.

I called this. I forget who it was but someone on this site said how dumb I was for thinking a rookie was better than lutz.

Re: Kicker

Lutz may get a week to fix this, maybe or maybe not. Came back after that injury and was the worst kicker in the NFL. Writing is on the wall that this young man's career is likely over if Denver has to cut him.

Re: Kicker

I don't feel like making fun of Lutz. I like Lutz a lot and he was a true Saint. He just hasn't been the same since the injury. I feel bad for him honestly. I'm happy we found a replacement though, Grupe can really kick.

I don't think anyone is making fun of Lutz. I think we're all glad and happy for Grupe.

Not here, but I've seen it on SaintsReport and our reddit. I don't get the point of poking fun at him, the dude literally gave his all for us.

I believe this is a good article that explains much of it. There's, of course, more detail on each talking point, but it's a good, accurate list.

12 Psychological Reasons Why People Make Fun Of Others

1. Insecurity (they put others down in order to make themselves look better).

2. They’re uncomfortable with those who are different.

3. Learned behaviors from others.

4. Projection about their own perceived flaws or shortcomings.

5. The need to be the center of attention.

6. “Better than average effect” (BTAE).

7. Ethical erosion.

8. Contempt toward perceived weakness.

9. Fear.

10. They feel powerless, so they try to take power from others.

11. Low emotional intelligence.

12. Control.

Grupe was dropping them deep in goal on his kickoffs too.

Re: Kicker

I think Lutz is an average kicker who had a bad day Sunday. Kickers come and go in this league but it would not surprise me if he stuck around awhile. I think having traded a pick for him, the Broncos will give him more than 2 games, unless they keep losing at his fault. I am just glad we have a younger cheaper kicker who has been solid.

I don't agree that making fun of people is all bad. Sometimes friends make fun of each other to get a thick skin. A little fun is good. Everyone being all super polite and sensitive makes pansies. The League was a good show, shows a good example of healthy friendships. Lutz didn't have to be a pro kicker, he chose it, and yeah you make a kick you get free Gatorade on your head, you miss one you get called some names, he could have chosen to do peoples taxes at H&R Block if he didn't want that. I don't know how it could be more obvious that NFL kicker is not the ideal job for anyone who is highly emotionally sensitive to the casual criticism of strangers. Delicate souls need not apply.

I like Lutz. I don't think feeling sorry for him will make him make kicks. He blew a game. Now he needs to man up and go win the next game.

I agree 100% about ribbing amongst close friends. Apples and rocks.

I just hope Grupe has enough sense to stay the heck out of the way if a runner gets past the first wave. Dude will be crushed. We will be out of a kicker.

I've seen a few old time posters peaking on the boards and hope they add to the comments more often.
I see you, Danno.:bng:

Thank you for that! I do not chime in here very often. But I do read most everything. There are greater football mines than mine. I do manage to follow the game, one way or another every week no matter where I am. Looking forward to another great season.

Re: Kicker

Grupe had a great first game. Especially since Lutz missed out on four points in Denver. Now, Grupe needs to follow that up with more kicks right down the middle. His kicks don't tail off toward the end like Lutz' do.
