Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

Who's on your short list?

Never dreamed I'd be placing DC4 on this list. But you have to based on salary alone and position at QB.

What say you?

Smash, that stat line is TROUBLING boss.

But then again, D Carmax was hand picked by a substitute teacher and we are paying the price.

Drew Brees

He spoiled the hell out of us.

And I think Brandon Browner or Tebucky Jones trumps Jason David and Byrd.

Came here to say Tebucky.

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

I'm going to stick with QB's, the rest of the list is too long for this... lol

Derek Carr / free agent high guaranteed salary, no escape due to cap
Richard Todd / traded 1st round pick for declining marginal player
Steve Walsh / traded 1st,2nd,3rd round picks for below average player
Heath Shuler / traded 3rd and 5th round draft picks for terrible player

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

Jason David was bad, but I really don't think it's all his fault.

He played primarily zone for years in Indy, then Saints management do as they always have and think they can just jam a player into a different scheme and it'll work.

They forced him into man coverage schemes and he was left on an island constantly, especially with ****ing Kevin Kaesviharn and Josh Bullocks starting at safety spots.

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

Derek Carr, Jason David, Jarius Byrd and Heath Shuler would make my Mt Rushmore, with Carr in the oversized George Washington spot.

His QBR was ranked bottom #5 vs a terrible Atlanta team.

Most of saw what we were getting (30-0 blow out of Raiders) last year with Carr.

He's performed (I'd say worse) no better than Andy Dalton but at least AD could score in the redzone.

Unfortunately AD seriously outplayed DC and that is very sad considering AD sucked really bad.

Browner.......followed by that reach in the second round on a worthless pick years ago that got cut when they found out how stoopid he was.

I’d rather have Dalton any day versus this Carr.
Our backup right now is 10 times better than this Carr.

Corner Baptiste when WR Landry was right there. And we really needed a WR

Facts.

We need a spark badly. At this point, Carr is nothing more than a bridge QB in my eyes. I firmly believe that our substitute teacher's worst nightmare is for Jameis, Haener or Taysom to come in for four quarters and dominate ... essentially making Carr look bad is going to make people question the contract they gave him more than they already are.

12 weeks in, I'm very unimpressed but the warning signs were there from his playing days in Oakland/LV.

He was a different cat but at least the Saints got some production out of him. The Dolphins gave the Saints a 1st round pick for him too so there's that. Which leads us to...
https://top10busts.com/wp-content/up...n-sullivan.jpg
The Saints took that Dolphins first rounder and their own first rounder to move up in the 1st round to pick this clown. He may indeed be the worst acquisition the Saints ever made.

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

If we're talking draft picks that opens up a whole other cache of choices, most notably Trevor Penning.

When yall wanna start talking mocks? I want Jayden Daniels and Will Shipley.

One or two more embarrassing losses away from starting
a mock draft post.

Honestly, I don’t even see the Saints taking a shot at JD, at least
not with this current coaching staff.

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

If you consider timing and ability to know better not just salary I can make an argument for Nick Fairley’s 2017 extension including if you want the 2016 deal that led to it. Fairley had a documented heart condition and the Saints did not order a throrough evaluation of its current status from a specialist before signing Fairly to a 4 year deal from 2017-2020. The second the signing bonus hit his account Fairley went to a specialist, got an update, and never played another down. That contract covered 2017-2020, the four best seasons in the Saints championship window, and they paid a guy good starter money to never play a down. Add another quality starter to that mix and rings are very possible. Carr’s contract is probably a bigger financial disaster but i dont think it hits at a time when we could win a ring if Carr was the 14th best qb like he is paid to be, or even the 8th best, with our issues on oline and pass rush.

On the phone yesterday saying I feel the same way about Jayden that I did about Stroud.

Add 10lbs and he'll be lethal.

This coaching staff would royally mess him up if we did Draft Jayden.

This management top to bottom needs to be shown the door first.

Everything going forward has to assume this atrocity ends by the end of season.

Some great mentions here. Another that comes to mind is Coby Fleener.

Holy smokes. This is going to be the longest off-season ever. If Mrs. Benson doesn't clean house after this season is over then we'll have to endure a two year off-season at least.

... which makes the pursuit of DC4 even more egregious . While last year was somewhat a pass, this year cements DA's tenure as a complete utter joke, even magnifies the gaping mistake with who was brought in to interview, Bienemie in DC and Pederson now in Jacksonville. Steelers did it right when they hired Tomlin. You'd think someone would notice.

That's what they get for misrepresenting a team as in NY when it in fact is in NJ. That goes for the Giants too now.

Add Santa Clara (SF). I'm probably missing a city or two.

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

The worst acquisition(s) seem to be the most recent.

Players who's price to production ratio are skewed and likely mean unrealized future players:

Marcus Davenport
Trevor Penning
Payton Turner
Derek Carr......

Re: Worst Acquisition Ever in Saints History

Ooof ...

3 former first rounders (2 DEs) from that group.

Someone may need to look at the Scouting/Player Personnel (Powell, Parenton, Matthews) this off season too.
