Saints going to Brazil?

It could happen ... for one game anyway. I've read that the goal is to have 16 international games every year so every team in the league will have eight home games, eight away game, and one game at that international neutral site. That seems like an ideal setup up to me.

What y'all think?

I personally dislike international play and wish the NFL would stop. If the NFL wants to play one game per year at a neutral site for each team to give them each an 8/8 split, I much prefer the idea of keeping the games in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and US territories only.

I wish the NFL would quit focusing on international play and expand to 36 teams to help get rid of these stinky 4-team divisions (most notably our own).

One of the biggest hurdles I have heard mentioned with any type of expansion is the availability (or lack thereof) of players to stock the rosters. Four more teams would require an average of at least 40 additional offensive linemen (53 man roster and practice squad included) and 12 more QB's. These two critical areas are already watered down to the point that it is affecting offensive play throughout the league.

International play is not going away. Especially in Europe, and now South America. There will be 16 games per year in the very near future from what I have been hearing and reading. There is simply too much money to be made by the league.

Who knows, maybe some day there will be quality players being developed in other countries to cover the crippling dearth of talent available to the league today.

Yeah there are a lot of considerations. I think the defense would also dilute with the expansion too making it hopefully not so bad. Expanding the pool of refs with officiating that is already dubious is another big one. But getting to 36 would be so ideal because you could have 6 divisions of 6 teams! Make Division Titles Great Again!

The fewer division titles the fewer selections of NFL merchandise for the league to peddle. If they could think of a way to have 12 divisions they would. LOL. NFC South Champs, NFC North Champs, NFC East Champs, NFC West Champs, NFC Central Champs, NFC Midwest Champs, etc.

Re: Saints going to Brazil?

At this point, the entire franchise might move to Brazil permanently, and you can make the drive (2 weeks round trip?) to watch Derek Carr do the Samba with the turf, and watch Dennis Allen continue his scared mannequin act on the sidelines, and then you can come on here to tell us about the mathematical chances of making the Super Bowl that way. That would be awesome.

Otherwise, Yawnnnnnnn… (as usual)

According to this the league will be up to as many as nine international games (eight plus the annual Jags game) as early as 2025. Sounds like they are serious about getting to that 16 game level soon.

Meanwhile, we’ll be lucky to even begin to put together a winning franchise by then.

I understand why they are doing it....more $$$ pure and simple. Not a fan. All i see is the increase in game gear $$$ for us poor folk. And, don't hide behind the moniker of trying to build the fan base. All that means is more $$$.

Goodell would send NFL teams to the northern Gaza strip if he thought there was big money in it.

The NFL is a business first and foremost. It has been for decades. I can't think of any business that wouldn't look for more easy money.

Last I checked that doesn't occur in October or early November when the International games are played. I suppose they can change the calendar? Probably not.

I understand it's about growing your brand, but now you are taking away games from your own fans. Or was this the plan when they added a 17th game for the season?

Bingo!!! You nailed it there. That why talk is moving to 16 international games every year with every team playing one neutral site game. We're probably only three or four years from that being the norm. They are already to move to nine games by 2025.

Who knows, if they can eventual expand to an 18 game season they can have 32 international games per year. That means huge revenues.

Thanks God for their greed or the league might have folded decades ago and we would have our Saints. I hope they stay greedy (ie. successful) and we have our Sints for decades to come!
