Tell the front office. Or, we can hope to remain “competitive” in the most pathetic division in the league, while $ucking @ss less than a few other teams, and be happy.

What's the hold up on the new OC? ....

They've interviewed a lot of guys. Just make a decision.

Senior Bowl is THIS WEEKEND. Saints need all eyes, coaches, trainers & scouts on tap.

Does it mean they're targeting one of the coaches still remaining in the playoffs?

Good point. I haven't kept up with the rumors, but if they had asked permission to talk to someone word would have gotten out.

I think several teams are waiting for the games to play out when all coaching prospects are available.

As for the Senior Bowl that was mentioned, I can't imagine there's any team out there that has anything new to learn from the players in that game. No doubt all 32 teams will be in attendance, but from what I've heard it's as much for networking as it is for scouting. There should be a good deal of casual interviewing taking place in Mobile.

Possibly. I would prefer ANYONE from the Kyle Shanahan (Klint Kubiak) or McVay (Zac R - recently hired in Atlanta) coaching tree.

IIRC Underhill stated that he expects a hire to be made (this week) during senior bowl week.

At this point, I'd be ok with Jerrod Johnson, however I see he is scheduled to interview with the Bucs soon. His work with CJ Stroud in 2023 was rather impressive. Carr needs all of the help he can get. Even at age 32  Take Geno Smith (33) for example. He improved quit a bit last season with Shane Waldron (McVay tree) as his OC.

There's also some thought by some that Saints whiffed on not retaining Dan Campbell in some capacity, and then elevating him to HC. Would you consider Dan Campbell's decisions in the NFCCG on foregoing the FGs similar to DAs decisions here on more than one occasion? Just how different do you guesstimate our fortunes here would have fared under Dan Campbell? It's the very same cap management team at the end of the day. Detroit took in our oft injured golden haired LB and made him a starter.

Dan Campbell has been catching hell all morning for his decision making. He looked more like Chargers' recently fired coach Brandon Staley with some of the in game moves than any sort of revolutionary head coach.

Let's not forget that part way through last season Campbell had a record of 4-19-1 as the Lions' Head Coach and Detroit fans were calling for him to be fired immediately. Let's just wait this out and see if he can bounce back.

How funny … or sad, that here we are, talking about Dan Campbell bouncing back, when it’s Dennis Allen that needs to be bounced out of the building.

Probably true...

This will be DA's third year coming up, correct? And this was DC's third year. Does any correlation make sense in terms of allowing DA to flourish in his third year?

DC had arguably a tougher path to navigate to elevate Detroit to the NFCCG.

Campbell is catching too much flak. If Reynolds doesn't drop those two passes or Aiyuk doesn't have his miracle catch the Lions had it locked up. It was just one of those snake-bitten games that teams like Lions, Vikings and us Saints are known for. The Ravens game had more regrettable coaching easily.

Campbell's path was made a good deal smoother by the Packers losing their future Hall of Fame QB prior to the season and the Vikings losing their starting QB, as well, with Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall both starting multiple games. Not to mention facing the powerhouse NFC South. LOL!

Too many critical drops by the WRs for sure & Williams also muffed a td.

Detroit had the Niners by the throat all first half. That 3rd quarter was brutal though.

But yeah, missed opportunities. Mr. Irrelevant and CMac came up BIG when they had to be.

Maybe the new OC can put up points to go with our top ten defense. We've got most of the pieces to get into the playoffs.

Top 10? Saints defense? I missed that one Rugs.

Saints gave up a ton on the ground in 2023 & probably ranked bottom half in pressures/sacks.

It's hard to be a great defense when your offense never let's you catch your breath before sending them back out there. We could do much worse. I know. I've lived through it.

FYI, Rugs, 2023 Saints finished 7th in fewest points allowed and 13th in fewest total yards allowed. The defense also finished 4th in takeaways with 29, two fewer than the Ravens and Giants who led the league with 31 each. The defense did have some issues, of course, and much of it did come at the hands of the offensive playcalling putting them in such poor situations as you accurately pointed out. All of the slow starts allowed opponents to lean more heavily on the run, so of course that would show up as bigger run totals. It makes perfect sense.

Down the stretch our defense looked markedly better, but then again, so did the offense.

All in all, people can cherry pick and find both good and bad statistics to satisfy their needs.

The actual bowl of cherries that matters, is sitting on the table, next to the other assorted snacks that other fans get to pick and feast on while our boys sit at home doing the same, watching other teams in the playoffs.

Yep.

Excuses is why you’re at home.

I’m not here to sugarcoat under performing coaches and players.

Especially considering how WEAK the NFC South has been last 2 seasons.

Sounds like a Saints problem to me.

Question is, what will they do in the off season to overcome objections on offense & special teams? You do a better job of coaching, scouting and preparing your team each and every week. Not sit up on the podium after taking an L & say “we gotta do a better job …” yada, yada, yada .

Good teams find solutions, not excuses. The NFL is hard for a reason.

A good place to start is the 2024 draft. 2017 was a long time ago & the Saints have a lot of work to do.

2017 was a long time ago & the Saints have a lot of work to do.

We only have two picks in the first two rounds of the draft this year. We don't pick again until the fifth round where we should receive a few comp picks. In 2017 Jeff Ireland had two first round, one second round and three third round picks. We had five picks in the top one hundred and then we picked Trey Hendrickson at pick 103.

The point is that Ireland had much more ammo to work with in 2017 than he has this year. I fully expect us to find away back into the second round where we usually pick very well. Foskey could still be a good player after getting accustomed to the NFL. He had to adjust to the size and speed of the players, his playbook, and what his responsibilities are. But we must get better in the trenches.

See Detroit Lions 2021 & 2022 draft. In just 2 short seasons, they turned it around & was a play or two away from going to the Super Bowl THIS YEAR.

Copy cat league. Make those 5 picks count.

The Saints braintrust need to figure it out this off season & not focus on what they don't have.

Contenders do serious work in the off season & solve problems on how to improve & get better so they can compete in late January.
