2024 NFL Combine

Well, we've had one every year, so here we go.

The Saints are sending everyone. Probably wanting to hit St. Elmo's for the Shrimp Cocktail.

I don’t think its the shrimp cocktail Mickey is interested in. I heard that many of our first round trade ups including getting two picks to take Olave and Penning and trading two picks for Davenport were a result of confusion when Mickey Loomis kept repeating the phrase ‘make it a double’ in a stupor.

My, God, you are so obsessed with Loomis! You truly are one of those whackos that creates a website dedicated to your obsession. According to that site that you shared here recently you bragged about the fact that you were banned from that "other site" over your opinion of Loomis back in 2018! 2018! That's six years ago! God only knows how long your obsession had been boiling away prior to that. Long enough that you must have become so disruptive that it called for a banning. You must have been turning every thread into a vehicle for your hatred of Loomis just like you are doing here. I swear you are making that sinner guy seem tame in comparison. I believe it when you say that your obsession doesn't interfere with your life. Seldom do those that are this severely obsessed realize their issues. I almost feel sorry for you. But, based upon your personal attacks on people I love I don't. Maybe pity is a better description.

I feel the same about the combine and to me it is the nothing-burger of the NFL offseason. I don't understand the desire to over-analyze. Other sports presumably don't need a rookie combine of this sheer scope, right?

I believe it's become more important to the "couch GM's" than anyone officially associated with NFL teams. The teams have done extensive research on every player that shows up at the combine over the past couple of years. There's not much more that they can learn outside of a rushed interview. But for the fans at home it's their first chance to see most of these players so they can pretend to be GM's come draft time. ;)

Re: 2024 NFL Combine

When players refuse to run certain drills at the combine it's probably because they will have a poor showing and they don't want it on their player profile. When I see O linemen who doesn't want to bench press then that suggests that they are weaker than they look. The combine is meant to test the athletic skills of a football player to help with a profile for their evaluation. I believe that if a player skips a drill or test it's because they are afraid that their limitations will limit their draft status.

I agree, that a lot of these underwear Olympics don't translate to the playing field. Maybe they should all run these drills in shells to get a more accurate feeling for the player. Game speed is what matters. That and the ability to rapidly diagnose a play.

One more thing. Where is the test to see what the size of the mans heart is? How do you measure his passion? How do you test his desire to put in the work to be the best?

Most of the skipped tests or drills are because the players and/or their agents know it isn't going to affect their draft status. As for measuring heart and passion, a lot of that is gain through the interviews with the players, their former coaches, teachers, neighbors, clergy, teammates, etc.

Here we go, Rugs. This is exactly what I just said in my earlier reply, coaches just don't seem to see drills and/or athletic testing as being that important at the combine.

Hmmmm........if the combine isn't that informative then why do certain players rise while others fall? I know that you know there are measurables that matter like the three cone shuttle times.

Players rise and fall in the viewpoints of fans and media types. I suspect anything beyond personal interaction with the players goes relatively ignored by the teams themselves. Those one on one interviews, however, work the other way around. Only the teams gain the knowledge from them while the media and thus the fans really get nothing from it. I suppose some media interviews may expose the players some, but most are probably so well coached by their agents that the media stuff is mostly fluff.

Except for that player today that said he doesn't believe in outer space and that the flat-earthers may be onto something. LOL!!!

He may have found another way to drop a players draft stock.

Re: 2024 NFL Combine

I for one think Mickey Loomis has done a great job as GM. Picking Allen has HC probably wasn't completely his call and it was probably felt in the organization up to the owner that he deserved a shot. I think he has consistently put together good rosters. Rosters don't always perform for a myriad of reasons. He's an easy scapegoat for the lazy mind. If we got rid of him the entire fanbase would have seller's regret unless we got some sort of genius GM to replace him.

Re: 2024 NFL Combine

I think that if there was a GMs combine and one of the drills was a blood alcohol test Mickey Loomis would decline to participate.

Mickey Loomis has not put together good rosters. Last year he put together a roster with a washed up QB the Raiders cut, an oline featuring a left tackle who had never suceeded above the juco level, a right tackle with a degenerative knee condition who needed rest every week, and a guard who was a draft bust almost a decade ago at tackle and has been injured every year of his career and another guard who was a draft bust with one mediocre season to his credit who promptly got paid and reverted to the mean. The top Wr had played 10 games in the past 3 seasons. And the top pass rusher was 33 and due to decline but the GM decided to extend him before his contract expired. This amazing roster Loomis put together faced a historically easy season and missed the playoffs, and now the Raiders discarded QB will only cost more money and be older. While other teams are trying to find the next Tom Brady, Loomis found the next Drew Bledsoe. While other teams modeled their oline on the San Francisco 49ers, Loomis modeled his on the San Francisco PD.

No, you're Tin Hat Man. By the way, you've been around here long enough after getting banned from that other place that you should know that memes, especially cat memes, are a long-standing tradition here.

If he actually paid attention to what he found here after being banned from that other site he would have known that. He doesn't appear to care about anything but his obsession's with Mickey Loomis.
