Saints Make One Responsible Move - Marcus Maye to be Cut

Marcus Maye to be cut.

https://overthecap.com/saints-to-release-marcus-maye

This will save $1.2 million by cutting him, but the team passed on saving even more, $5.6 million, with a restructure that would have kicked the can to future years.

Now if we don't turn around and blow this money on Hunter Renfrow or whatever, at least its one good move. We need to get younger, and Marcus Maye was not getting younger.

Marcus Maybe played 17 games total the last two seasons: the same number as Marshon Lattimore.

Not at all surprised & expected this to happen.

One LESS 30+ year old player we have to worry about missing games or in the medical tent.

Anyways, I like Jordan Howden a lot. Played well as a rookie in 2023.

Howden seems ready!

Wonder if we bring back Abrams or Johnson or both

Michael Thomas is probably next up.

Hopefully he'll land on a true contender before he calls it a career.

Maybe.

My guess is that they are possibly targeting someone in FA.

Saints lack range (Marcus W) on the back end.

At the same time, our secondary is potentially the least of our problems on the entire team, so I hope we don't spend money in free agency there unless its an incredible value on a backup level salary player. I hope we can retain Yiadom.

If we spend money, it should be on oline or pass rush. But we should spend very frugally because if Carr, Ram, and Lattimore do not improve their performance/health next year it is critical that we are able to pivot.

In the past Lattimore and Williams made our defense dominate opposing offenses. Sadly, both of them will be somewhere else next year. I didn't initially get excited about the Marcus Maye signing after reading up on him and his production never impressed me.

We need to invest in a mid round free agent veteran and then draft another rangy safety who isn't just a hitter but a ball hawk as well. Hopefully we can find better value than Maye in free agency this time around!

I think Adebo, Taylor, Yiadom, and Howden are good. I think the problem is they could all be Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson and it would not matter if we give the opposing QB 45 seconds to throw.

We were 9th in the league in passing defense yards allowed, 10th in passing average yards per play allowed, 4th in fewest first downs allowed, and 4th in interceptions. Looks to me like opposing QB's are struggling with those 45 seconds.

With our 8 losses and having missed the “PLAYOFFS?!?!?” (again)… opposing QB’s AINT struggling with those 45 seconds.
