Saints of the Roundtable

We've got a little more than a month before the draft so I thought I'd start a thread to break up all these little battles and bring levity to the site. Do what you will in discussing your favorite Saints but please keep it civil. If someone says that Johnathon Sullivan is their favorite Saints player of all time then by gum, let them love the guy.

A small list of my favorite Saints players, in no order, are as follows:
QB- Obviously Drew Brees. I was a big Brooks supporter back in the day but Drew is far and away my favorite Saints player.

RB-Deuce McAllister- A large man that was really fast but always "acted like he'd been there before" when he scored TD's

WR-Marques Colston- Quiet Storm- similar to Deuce, was awesome. Didn't need to show off. Everyone knew he was awesome.

TE- Hoby Brenner- Only because I had his poster on my wall in high school.

OL-Kyle Turley-Simply because he threw that dudes helmet across the field after he tried to hurt Aaron Brooks.

DL- This is tough. I liked Norman Hand because he'd go into every play literally screaming when running head-on into another large man. Will Smith is a sentimental pick here but I'll go with LaRoi Glover. Dude was a monster.

LB- I don't blame this on recency bias because the man is a remarkable person off the field and is one of the best LB's currently playing the game. DeMario Davis.

DB- The Saints have rarely had a good secondary throughout all the years I've watched them. Lattimore is the best CB to wear the Fleur De Lis but Darren Sharper was integral for the Saints in their Superbowl run. Sharper's off-field behavior takes him off the list here so I'll pick one of the CB's from that team and go with Jabari Greer.

You can add coaches here if you'd like but this is my list of favorites.

Your list just made me more depressed, although I thank God that I got to ride the roller coaster through the years that we had all that fire.

I’d add in Vilma, Bush and Lance Moore.

Drew Brees was obviously the best.

I liked Aaron Brooks a lot. I think Jim Haslett ruined him both as a poor leader, setting the example that 'there is always an excuse', and being too afraid to utilize him as a runner (which might have come at the direction of the rookie GM whose first move was extending Brooks). I think Manning or Brady would have washed out of the league under Haslett. Its not that Brooks was Manning or Brady, but under a different head coach perhaps he was Josh Allen, Russ Wilson, or Randall Cunningham.

Pierre Thomas my favorite running back. He never seemed to be the chosen anointed back to run the show but he always produced.

Colston was also very reliable. A key player along with Brees.

Tracy Porter was not an amazing talent but he came up big in the key moments and that makes all the difference.

Sorry but I liked Chauncey Gardner Johnson a lot. He was not a nice guy or a humanitarian but he got in opponents heads and made big plays in a way that was very entertaining to watch. It he had got a better offer and wanted to walk when he became a free agent fine, we could have taken the comp pick, but I was disappointed that we traded him early at a discount of less than we would have got from a comp pick because he did not get along with a coach who did not have his level of talent or motivation.

Not a player, but I respected Jim Mora's honesty a lot. I don't feel DA is honest or holds anyone accountable.

Vaughn Johnson was my favorite of the four because he hit like a truck! That Dome Patrol was awesome.
