While the Saints doctors and gambling GM may know more than we do, they also knew more than we did about Thomas, Penning, Turner, Davenport, Moreau, DeShaun Watson, and many players going back to Byrd and Fairley, and their knowledge has not translated into good decisions on injured players since the 2006 offseason. There are also 31 other teams in the NFL who passed on Young or offered less, and based on track records most of them know more about avoiding injured players than the Saints.

If the procedure was minimally invasive, why are they saying Young will miss part of training camp and making no guarantees about the start of the season? This is not a guy who recovered fast from an ACL, missing the better part of 2 years.

If you want to play the inside knowledge card, no other team knows as much as we do about Cameron Jordan's ankle, how much it contributed to his decline in 2023, how much of his decline was more a factor of age, and how well his ankle is recovering to expect a boost or further drop in production in 2024. We don't know what they know, but we do know that their largest expenditure in free agency so far has been a pass rushing DE that recorded a similar or lesser sack total in 2023 than what Jordan has recorded when fully healthy, and that they saw this as the most important addition to make in free agency despite that player having serious enough injury concerns of his own to warrant special contract language. It would be reasonable to infer that the addition of Young makes the most sense if the prognosis on Jordan's contribution to the pass rush in 2024 is poor and the team believes Jordan's decline in 2023 was real and permanent not the PR line about an ankle to cover for the bad contract. If Jordan was about to come back to form in 2024 with 8-10 sacks, no way is Young and his 7.5 sacks and a neck surgery our top priority in free agency.

I am glad we have guarantees against injury. Hopefully they are good guarantees.

Why is it that everything you post turns into management bashing? That's why I call it crap. A few mentions here or there is opinion. Hundreds of mentions reflects an ongoing obsession. Going the same place in 98% of posts over two plus years just becomes unreadable crap.

Nothing personal. Just my opinion. And undoubtedly others, as well, from what I have come to understand.

Maybe because what you call “management”, has us in a state of broken “rebuilding” which just culminated in us not even winning the freaking NFC SOUTH. Just like calling what Bako writes “unreadable crap”, and then, you read it again and again and again. Just like your definition of SET TO IGNORE. Just like you being quoted as saying, “Winning championships is not the goal”. And you expect to be taken seriously?

Re: Chase Young to undergo neck procedure

Just a wild guess, but the procedure could be something along the lines of the following:

Cervical foraminotomy is a surgical procedure done to relieve the symptoms of a pinched nerve by enlarging the neural foramen, and it can be performed in a minimally invasive way. The neural foramen is an opening where nerve roots exit the spine and travel throughout the body.

The timeline for recovery sounds pretty much in line with what we're hearing. It says several weeks to return to normal activity for the average patient. I'd imagine getting back in playing shape for an athlete might be a bit longer so the 3-4 months that I read for Young seems reasonable.

The stinger that he reportedly suffered could have been a pinched nerve instead.

And the Saints “could” win a Super Bowl, possibly under new ownership and management, maybe a decade from now…

But then again, “Winning championships is not the goal”.

Right.

Albert Grier reported that the recovery for this "procedure" is 3-4 months .

So basically we are looking at the beginning to middle part of training camp.

I'm fine with it IF we draft a DE early.

Speaking of another DE & surgery ...

Saints defensive end Cam Jordan underwent surgery for troublesome ankle.

Jordan has had a brilliant career however father time is knocking.

Here's the latest.

This is very interesting because it gives details that Cam's ankle injury happened in the Saints 11th game of the season on 11/26. Through 10 games Cam had 2 sacks, he was on pace for 3.5 sacks for the year, but the injury kept him at 2 sacks as he had none after the injury. Again, this is why I am skeptical of the narrative that Cam's decline is based on injury and we can expect him to bounce back this year. Usually when players have a major decline one year at that age they continue to decline the next year, and usually when they have a minor injury at that age they have a minor or worse injury the next year, but if Cam held steady but stayed injury free, we would expect 3.5 sacks. Cam having surgery to correct an injury that he was already struggling on pace for 3.5 sacks before, and the Saints making their biggest free agent move on a risky player to fill in for Cam, those are both bad news for Cam's status.
