I hope the Saints scouts did their homework.

We need quality starters in 2024.

Well nfl.com reckons:

Needs Analysis
Top Needs:
OL •
WR •
CB •
DL •
LB
The Saints are likely to take an offensive tackle because of veteran right tackle Ryan Ramczyk's lingering knee issue and 2022 first-round pick Trevor Penning's continued struggles. The defensive line, linebacker group and secondary (cornerback Paulson Adebo is a 2025 free agent) will receive some attention in this draft. A new receiver will likely join A.T Perry and new Saint Cedrick Wilson to fill the gap left by Michael Thomas. -- by Chad Reuter

I'm ok with BPA. If you can get a unicorn like Bowers at 14 don't pass it up. You could still spend the 2nd and 3 5th rounders on OL and get a few to pan out.

My thoughts exactly sir.

I wouldn’t be mad if they took Bowers. As long as they go T in the 2nd round and trade up to get a G as well.

Not sure taking a TE at 14,even if he is BPA is a good idea when you have a line that'll part like the Red Sea

Not even sure he'll get enough time for 3 steps

Re: Draft lash out thread

My worst fear is the Saints trading their 2025 1st round pick.

My second worst fear is the Saints taking Brock Bowers, or more generally I guess I don't think any team should ever draft a TE, RB, K, or P in the first round so I guess if we took a RB or a different TE I would be equally mad.

Logically we should draft oline, but I can't really expect perfection, so I am just hoping we dont mortgage the future or flush the pick down the toilet. I think if we used two of our 5th round picks on TE, we would be likely to land a great TE than if we took Bowers in the 1st round, because TE is so unpredictable that quantity beats quality in the draft every time.

I hope to god we don’t go TE with that first pick. Whether we go BPA or not, it should be for O or D line, and for both first and second picks at the least.
I don’t feel like we’re in the position to be picking luxury picks at this time, especially with high round picks.

So the former LSU grad at TE is no longer good to go?

Even with our history of drafting BPA I can see this year being the first year we stick to a real plan. We will never know if Carr is capable unless he has blocking. IMO, Fashanu is a lock at 14. If he is gone I see Mims or Latham.

Mickey Loomis has gone on record as saying “they won’t force a pick at OT”.

Smart move.

If their guy isn’t available, you can always get a lineman in rd 2.

Can you though, without having to trade up. If there's a big run in R1 then players who are second rounders will be gone before the Saints pick. You'll be reaching or trading up for worse talent.

I would be okay with that. Only issue I have is it appears we need a plug in day one starter.

Maybe even two two starters. But still, you build the best team with BPA because they are the best players available. I'd rather not force a pick. That's how you wind up with a bad player like Penning. How bout we sign better free agents next year with the money we saved this year?

We are only 73ml over next year so should be easy

Though to be fair if they want to start cleaning house of older high paid vets they can start that next year

Broncos pick Bo Nix

Denver's offensive line is in more trouble then the Saints this season.
