What's The Next Move?

What do the Saints do next? Maybe bring back Peat? Are we set on the O line? Who would you like to bring in?

Re: What's The Next Move?

I think we could bring back Peat but I don't think its the most likely move.

I think something could happen with Lattimore. More likely than not there was some real strategic reason to put the unusual clause in his contract for a bonus to trigger later in the offseason. He could be traded, cut, restructured, extended (I hope not at his age), retire unexpectedly, have an injury that has not been disclosed, or who knows what. All the talk how we dont have too many corners and we dont really want to trade him could be a smokescreen to not look desperate. His trade value is low because his contract pays him more than he is worth, even if he is worth a fair bit of money. But we could be looking to move on regardless.

Some news could come regarding Ram. He will likely be a post-june-1 designated cut in march 2025 but we could formally announce whether he is going to play in 2024 or not.

Trading a player like Kamara, Hill, or one of our several similarly ok tight ends is still a possibility I think. We are acting more like we might be at least partly rebuilding, and such moves could make sense for that.

I could also see us trading Payton Turner or Trevor Penning in bust swap but that would not be a really big move. Sometimes teams get frustrated with their apparent busts and decide its time for a fresh start, but other teams agree and will give some late pick or similar bust.

A blockbuster trade of someone like Adebo or Olave for an oline would not be out of the question, though it is unlikely. It would hurt to lose them, but not as badly as it would hurt to have to start Penning I think.

Signing Peat would make sense if his demands are reasonable, but I wonder if there is a divide between the coaching staff and some of the veterans who went along with Winston on the face victory formation. On that note, I could also see us trading Jamaal Williams for a player with a similar situation of guaranteed salary they are not longer worth, but hard to cut because the salary is guaranteed and they are worth something.

Re: What's The Next Move?

Trevor will be moved to left guard and BET Big Easy Tank will play left tackle! Rattler will replace Carr after this season, if Carr doesn’t win a game in the playoffs! We will keep Lattimore this season and attempt to trade next off season! We’ll have a very good secondary, DL and the LB Corps will be average and only because of age! That new TE will be our starter and be a top 5 TE! WR is strong with the addition of Wilson and Means in the draft! Jamaal will be a lot better this year and Special K with do his thang! I will predict a 12-5 season, if not Allen and his coaching staff are gone!

Mekhi Becton signing with the eagles
1 year 5.5ml. He would have been worth a look at that price or even a little more.

Still think they sign Peat back

Honestly wouldn't hate having Peat back.

Re: What's The Next Move?

Maybe we could use another possession receiver to add competition to the WR room. If not, I think that the "HOLKster" will see the field a lot as a rookie. He is awfully smooth for a late round TE and his play style looks like a good fit with the Kubiak system.

Re: What's The Next Move?

Penning will shine at LT. Fuaga will take over for Ram who won't retire this year but will be put on PUP and never play again. Ezirim will take over at LG ala Evans. Kool-Aid will struggle early not being the star/starter. Ford is going to be a tackling/playmaking machine machine. Boyd and Means will head to the PS at best. Holker will make the squad. Kibodi will make the squad due to injuries and the new scheme after being the camp beast. Rattler will ascend to the #2 QB. Because of the numbers, Haener will be cut and the Saints will roll with Carr, Rattler and Hill at QB.

Re: What's The Next Move?

First: Sign a free agent LT, Peat if necessary.
Then sign veteran free agents at DT, LB P and K

Well apparently today we shores up our offensive line by signing a couple glass journeymen with limited experience. Don't be surprised if this does not solve the problem.

What about signing Connor Williams and moving him to Guard?

Re: What's The Next Move?

Peat is a very puzzling issue at this point. This guy has had little to no interest in the free agent market. Was Peat part of the locker room cancer that was somewhat mentioned after last season was completed? Could be too that Peat was told to keep quiet and that the Saints will bring him back? Who knows at this point. What we do know is there is a ton of work to get the o-line in order, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Re: What's The Next Move?

Or just maybe the Saints front office no longer wants to throw out 5M+ & have the mindset to develop Trevor P on the left side?

As others have mentioned, Andrus played well in 2023 so he may be OUT of the Saints price range. The new guy (Lemiuex) they recently signed has a lot of experience in run zone blocking. Maybe that is a plus with Kubiak’s system? I wanted Mechi Becton but I see the Eagles scooped him up a few days ago.

At this point who knows if Peat is even on the Saints radar.

This is by far the quietest offseason I can remember.

Are these circadian or crickets I hear?

Win now at any cost worked when you had a HoF QB. Now, all we have to show for it is an annual bloated cap number and team of declining vets.

I get the impression Allen has moved on from Peat...

These guys may not be exciting and likely aren't as good as Peat but it's telling nonetheless.

Dennis Allen said after the NFL draft that the New Orleans Saints had not filled all of their needs, adding he anticipated the team to dip back into free agency.

The Saints didn’t wait long.

New Orleans agreed to terms with guard Shane Lemieux and tackle Justin Herron on Monday, a source with knowledge of the situation said. The expected signings give New Orleans more help along the offensive line and come after the Saints added two tackles in the draft. The Saints drafted Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga in the first round and Eastern Kentucky’s Josiah Ezirim in the seventh.

Lemieux and Herron have been mostly backups, but they have some starting experience.

Lemieux, a 2020 fifth-round pick out of Oregon, started 12 of 18 career games for the New York Giants. But the 26-year-old has played sparingly since his first season when he logged nine starts in 12 games.

Injuries have heavily affected his career as he’s had three straight seasons cut short because of various ailments. Lemieux, 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, is coming off a torn biceps after dealing with a torn patella and aggravated toe that landed him on injured reserve in 2021 and 2022.

The Saints were in search of another guard after starter James Hurst’s retirement. Hurst announced his plans a day before the draft last week, though he and team officials said they were aware of the retirement for much longer.

Herron also has dealt with injuries. A sixth-round selection in 2020, the former New England Patriots lineman started six of 12 games as a rookie, but his season was affected by an ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve for four weeks in November.

In 2022, Herron was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders only for his first season with his new team to be cut short by a torn ACL. He returned a year later but suffered a concussion in his first regular-season game back. Herron played just 16 offensive snaps across six contests for the Raiders, who cut him in December.

Re: What's The Next Move?

They must have faith in what we have in house. Saldiveri should be ready after a year in an NFL weight room. Well....if Douggie Marrone didn't ruin him like he did Penning! Fingers crossed that he's salvageable. Good lord, that man was terrible at developing players! I'm glad he's gone and we brought in Clancy Barone for TE's, and John Benton along with Rick Dennison. Marrone was, in my opinion the biggest set back to a promising season. Well, that and DA is not head coaching material. Young has shown some promise as a late round developmental player who has put in the work. He could possibly move inside to guard.

McCoy is a stud and Ruiz is getting a little better each year. Fuaga loos like future pro bowler and looks like a more than capable replacement for Ram. Udoh could hold down the fort at LT from what I've read he is versatile. We've also signed another couple of solid looking backups after losing Peat and Hurst but neither one of the move the needle that much but we desperately need depth. We'll see at TC.
