QB Jake Haener is diagnosed with Cancer
 

New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Jake Haener announced Friday that he's been diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer. Haener wore a small bandage on his face during Friday's training camp practice, but told reporters that it's not a "life-threatening thing right now." Still, he said that this form of cancer is rare to see at 25 years old.

The second-year signal-caller out of Fresno State said he noticed a bump on his face that continued to grow. A biopsy revealed that the bump was cancerous. Haener has a meeting with doctors next week to determine what will happen next.

It's probably squamous cell carcinoma. It can kill you. I had it and they told me to get my affairs in order. The surgeon at UAB said "You're dead. You just don't know it because you're still up walking around". I looked at him and said "You can't kill me. I play rugby"!

As a young man I had no idea that I needed sunscreen. I have around ten skin cancers removes each year. But, I'm still here and happily fighting the good fight.:cool:

I hope this still allows for competition for the backup QB spot. He looks like he put the work in this offseason. I like the young gun but Rattler is rapidly growing on me.

I believe this whole thing was way overblown by the media (surprise!) and shouldn't affect the competition at all. As you have shared, Rugs, several of the most common procedures in a dermatologist's office these days deal with skin cancer removal or treatment. Needing the common procedure at such a young age was what made it "rare", but no more or less serious from what I understand.
