I had to turn away from the AZ cookie monster broadcast.

He thinks the Saints are holding on every play & Rattler was out of bounds on that td run

The only thing that jumps our of anyones hands faster is the opponents jersey out of Pennings hands as he commits holding but they still go right by him.

They are REALLY excited about their rookie mid round blocking TE.

If Derek Carr were to sustain an injury that he could not recover from by 3/17/2025, ie an ACL or something along those lines, I believe his 2025 $30 million salary would become fully guaranteed (a $10 million roster bonus is already guaranteed). If the Saints decided to move on from Carr at some point, they would probably bench him for the rest of the season.

But if the Saints play the combination of Carr and Penning at any point this season, Carr could be our $40 million man coming off an ACL at 34yo in 2025.

If the Saints go any further with Carr after today, there is something really wrong with this organization.

Let's be real. Carr is the starter and there is no changing that, barring injury. Now if the team offense sputters the first three weeks, QB controversy begins.

Yeah I agree Carr is the starter.

If he struggles too much, and the team decided to move on, I could see a mid to late season benching to avoid the risk of an injury guaranteeing his 2025 salary.

Also, if he struggles for a few games, gets a medium injury and misses a significant chunk of games, and then is ready to come back later in the season, I could see us deciding to keep him on the bench either if his replacement is playing well or if we are out of contention and dont want to risk an injury guaranteeing his salary.

Sampson looked nice with his few opportunities. Kolker looked real nice. Alot of people won't agree with thus but I say trade Adebo keep Marshon Start #1 that's just my opinion though

If Pretty Boy Haener or Bayou Rattler take over at some point, their rookie salaries opens an opportunity to move Carr, even if there is some residual Carr cap $.

We would probably have to cut Carr. If Carr were injured on 3/17/25 he could not be cut. A team would be hesistant to trade for Carr and play him in 2025 because he is due a $10 million roster bonus that is guaranteed and a $30 million salary that guaranteed on 3/17/25. Carr is only marketable if he is playing like he is worth $40 million. The scenario where we can trade Carr is something like the Carson Wentz season where he plays MVP caliber football, gets hurt, and our backup wins the Super Bowl. I am not sure our oline can play its role in that script.

Rattler is a legit NFL QB prospect with the tools.

He made the most of the opportunity regardless of who he faced. We couldn't say that with Ian Book .

With his skill set, he'll likely surpass Haener and in a year probably compete for Carr's job.

For where he was drafted, terrific value.

This is the absolute truth. I'd expect that Rattler is the first one in next week instead of Haener. We may not see Carr at all. Here's hoping he keeps looking smooth and takes over that backup spot and actually has a chance at the starting gig in 2025 if he proves to be a decent replacement for Carr.

It isn’t always about that when you know what to look for. He goes through his reads. He makes his decisions quickly. He scrambles efficiently, effectively, and with purpose. His throwing motion is pure and his arm talent is evident. That back shoulder throw was flick of the wrist and right on the money. The receiver was covered. Doesn’t matter by who. He still threw him open. Of course you want to see him against better competition but you also want to see him better complimentary pieces as well. Guarantee the run game opens up when he’s behind center.

THIS^^^ That right there is what I have been trying to say for a long time. “When you know what to look for”… It doesn’t matter how solid or broken the O-Line might be, or who the Offensive Coordinator is… there are tangible (and intangible) aspects that tell you all you need to know about Carr as opposed to Rattler. You can see it with your eyes and feel it in your gut. The same thing can be said for Dennis Allen, as opposed to a real Head Coach with presence and fire.

Y’all who defend these positions simply because of the financial commitment and/or weird dysfunctional ties to our accepted mismanagement, are simply showing your loyalty to the front office.

I don’t doubt he has everything it takes. I’m just not getting a hard one after playing against 5th stringers

I know it is only one game, but from what I have seen we have all the talent needed to be an explosive offense. But with no offensive line they won’t have the time to prove it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a worse line.

The line is definitely a major red flag. Donovan Smith, David Bakhtiari, or Cam Erving even…all available. It’s mostly RT too be honest. Penning so trash.

Unfortunately Cam Erving signed with the Texans for $1.2 million. He was our starter at the end of the year, he was clearly better than anyone on the roster at his position, we did not know if we would be able to replace him in the draft, and the cost was $1.2 million. We passed because he was part of the lineup that defied DA's call on the last play of the season, and we got rid of any of those players who did not come with a big dead cap to get rid of. Thats why both Peat and Erving are gone. It could be a factor in Hurst's retirement. Ultimately DA's pride may cost Carr his neck.

WW_Who_Dat 08-12-2024 10:16 AM

Re: Saints at Cardinals Gameday Thread

On one play Penning was backpedaling off balance and going down with very little contact … horrible. Looked effective on run blocking but he had a 20% pressure rate on his snaps … There will be QB pain if this does not resolve itself in the next 3 weeks.
