I think we moved on, and I hope we don't have to take him back. The dude only played like 19 games since his injury in 2020. And he made A LOT OF MONEY and popped our cap for years. Heck, he's probably costing us against our cap NOW.

Re: Hmmmm.. What Team Signed Michael Thomas

I think he has a value, maybe $2-4 million at most, but I would only sign him to a team that is a second tier championship contender needing one more star to have a shot to win it all and could win now if a very high risk gamble pays off. I would put his odds at playing a full year if signed under 10% but perhaps there is a 20-30% chance he could hold up for an 8 game stretch at the end of the year. All this could make it smarter for contenders to wait and see and pick him up late in the year if they really need help at receiver. This could be smarter for Thomas too because if he does hold up for 6-8 games at the end of the year on a 1 year deal, some sucker team could give him a bigger deal in the offseason. I dont know if any team will take the character risk on him, but say the 49ers lose Kittle or the Eagles lose Brown down the stretch but are otherwise top contenders, I think getting Thomas for $2.5 million prorated in week 12 or something like that could be worth the small chance that a change of scenery presents a renaissance.

The Chargers are hard up at receiver and Harbaugh cares so little about distractions he offered Kaepernick a coaching gig. The Jets could use another receiver, Rodgers is such a distraction that they may have nothing to lose, and Thomas is probably the type of receiver who has the best chance to rebound under a QB who excels at ball placement. I hope MT signs somewhere because I want to see if he succeeds or fails from an entertainment perspective.

I also think Thomas’ situation is where Kamara could be next year if he struggles this year after getting suspended, declining, and demanding a raise.

Get it right. Kamara was not and is not "demanding a raise". He said he has no problem at all with his current contract. He wants a separate extension so he is guaranteed to retire a Saint after a few more years. He said if he doesn't get an extension he'll retire "and move to Africa" instead of playing for another team.

If I was salesman whose sales were down the past two years and had been in trouble with HR last year, and I was still making a bunch of big bonuses and salary based on my top sales 4 years ago and was scheduled to make even more next year, and I stormed into my bosses office after sitting out a few days from work and said 'I am not asking for a raise, but I want an 'extension' that will guarantee me to retire here, I think my boss would take that as asking for a raise. Kamara is under contract this year. He is under contract next year. He is a 30yo type RB in decline with a big disciplinary infraction who would never get his present salary on the open market. In his position, asking for guarantees is asking for 'a raise' because he already is being paid more money and more guarantees than he would get on the open market.

The Saints have an offer on the table. Kamara has not accepted it. That should tell you what he is asking for is effectively a raise, even if it uses the $25 million 2025 'bs year' on his salary to count as not a raise because maybe he is willing to play for $15 million a year if we guarantee him 3 more years. In reality that would be a raise over anything we ever intended to pay him.

Cam Jordan is a great athlete but his agent is better, and that agent hung us out to dry last year. Same bs song and dance about wanting to retire a Saints, with the end results that we are paying $14 million for 2 sacks. Cam could have been a Saints for pay based on his performance, which would be like maybe $4 million, more in line with guys like Saunders and Shepherd who his skills and abilities are closer to at this stage of his career.

The fact is that football is a business. If the players dont want it to be a business they are welcome to sign for minimum salary. But it needs to be a business for the team. And the fact is that when an aging declining hometown favorite talks about wanting to retire in New Orleans instead of Africa but is holding out for more cash than the team can offer, its often more a case of his agent wanting to retire in the Maldives rather than Biloxi, because thats where all the demands come in.

Re: Hmmmm.. What Team Signed Michael Thomas

Thomas is not a bad guy. He runs his mouth but so do at least half of famous receivers past their rookie contract. The problem is that he is glass. Ironically this is the problem with CGJ too now. I dont really care that much about WR character if they are not committing felonies. Would I rather have Payton Turner or Michael Thomas for the same money this year? Its a wash. But Turner happens to be under contract for cheap so he was kept and Michael Thomas would have cost more so he wasn't. Not sure I would sign either as a free agent unless there was a dire need at the position late in the year in a tight race and I wanted to gamble they could last 6-8 games.

Not according to Sean Payton. When Payton "retired" from the Saints there was a very public back and forth concerning their continue affection for each other. I would venture to bet you have experienced frustration with someone at times that remained close to you. I know I have.

The only mention I have heard or read about any "deal on the table" was from Albert Breer some six or seven weeks ago. That clickbait Rome wanna-be, Matt Moscona, and others, also referenced Breer sometime back repeating what Breer had shared. What I have heard from other sources, including Kamara himself, is that talks were ongoing and these were AFTER the supposed "offer was on the table". As we all know any negotiation involves a back and forth with offers and counter offers. That's what makes it a negotiation. There have probably been a number of "offers on the table" in recent weeks. That's just Kamara's agent, Brad Cicala, doing his job.

Re: Hmmmm.. What Team Signed Michael Thomas

I doubt any of the players had bad feelings towards MT, the staff is another story. It was all about his availability and what he was willing to do or not do. For that we may never know the real truth for a very long time, if ever. I found it very interesting last year when he and Lattimore went down, it was not supposed to be a season ending for either guy. Fast forward to the offseason, MT is released and Lattimore is subject to heavy trade rumors, which still persist to this day. Then there were stories of Lattimore and the staff having to iron out differences, to me this is an indication they may have refused to play when they could have. If that has any truth to it, there is your cancer.

I serious doubt ANY player would refuse to play if they were able unless tied to some contract issue. That was not the case with either.

Believe what you want, there were many references made about team issues that needed to be fixed. I remember too how Dennis Allen responded to the media when it came to discussing injuries about them. Kind of the way he is acting towards Kendre Miller now.

There's a long list of veterans not on a team. A large number of them will be signed after week one when their salaries will not be guaranteed for the full 18 weeks. That's very important for players with an injury history as they can be deemed week to week for contract purposes. I'd be surprised if Thomas isn't signed by someone after that first week.
