Lattimore is at $1.2M for 2024.
I wouldn't think we'd be in the market for any type of trade at this point. Closer to the trade deadline? Maybe. But still doubtful. I don't see anyone making moves until team's seasons are basically over. |

I wouldn’t trade him for Adams. Not happy with his injury issues, but he’s still fairly young.
Not sure Adams would fit well. I might trade Lattimore for Kittle. He’d obviously fit into the scheme well. |

We can't afford him. Get younger and cheaper. Build from within.

Re: Midweek Thread to Stop the Bickering: Trade Scenarios
Exact financial numbers matter here.
Lattimore's base salary for 2024 has been restructured to $1 million. The dead cap for 2024-2025 if Lattimore is cut at the end of the season is $20-30 million (the option proration aspect from the 2024 restructure is confusing, I think it would be $30 million after the restructure). If Lattimore continues to miss lots of time this year after missing 50% of games the past 2 years and his backups continue to perform well, cutting him in the offseason is very possible as nobody will want a corner who has not played a full season in 4 years for $18 million salary. Davante Adams base salary for 2024 is about $17 million. The Saints have under $4 million cap space. Swapping Lattimore for Adams would put the Saints $12 million over the cap, forcing them to restructure Kamara and a couple mid-level players like Moreau, Williams, and/or Saunders to get under the cap with Adams. The Saints are $81 million over the 2025 cap and these moved would likely increase that to $90-100 million. The Raiders would take on about $16 million dead cap hit for 2025 by trading Adams and the Saints would take on about $30 million dead cap hit for 2025 by trading Lattimore. Adams is due $36 million in 2025 salary so he might be a 1 year rental, as restructuring and extending him would seriously jeopardize the Saints ability to extend their younger stars like Adebo. In the end, whether we retain Lattimore or trade for Adams, there is a strong chance either one could be a one year rental, because Lattimore will not be worth $18 million in 2025 if he keeps missing games and Adams would be hard for us to keep at $36 million in 2025. Dead cap is dead cap, its past money paid where we just have to pay the piper sooner, and sometimes its good to take your medicine that way. So if we ignore the dead cap and consider both a 1 year rental, it would cost $15 milion, probably more like $13 million since two game checks have already been mailed, to swap Lattimore for Adams for this year. To me, that would not be out of the question. If our depth at CB is solid and Lattimore might not play anyway, a high implact receiver could who takes away our risk of the offense imploding if Olave or Shaheed miss time could improve our chances to win now enough to be worth $13 million if we dont do a long term deal on an aging player at the same time. Then again it could also backfire and cause Carr to laser in on Adams, become one dimensional, and ruin the offense. Another consideration is would Adams actually be our #1 WR. Maybe he is already losing a step but just being targeted a lot. His pff score this year is 72 whereas Shaheed and Olave are 82-83. Then again, in a world where Christian Kirk is making $18m a year, even a diminished Adams as #3 receiver could be worth $13 million in a win now year if he doesnt wreck chemistry or the offense. I think this trade could be reasonable in a lot of circumstances as a 1 year bet. Extending or restructuring Adams and paying him $36 million for 2025 is what would be crazy. In the end I am not sure we need Lattimore at all this year and feel we could likely move on from him at the end of the year anyway, so I would consider trading him for lots of people, maybe a good backup RB like Warren, Spears, or Allegier too. The ideal would be to trade him for a young vertsatile #3 WR with upside but I am not sure who that is. Maybe Rashod Bateman? DeAndre Hopkins is a slightly cheaper player who could also give as a third viable receiver. I dont think he is as good as Adams. If Tennessee took on some of his remaining salary I would take a look at the right price. |
