Erik McCoy will undergo surgery, expected to miss a significant amount of time

Well, you have the rest of the week to teach the rest of these guys their blocking assignments. There seemed to be some confusion in that Sunday.

Oh, and teach Foster Moreau to block as well.

That’s a kick to the…well, to the groin.

Underhill said that the Saints injury report will be pretty significant this week. :brood:

8-9 or 9-8 at best.

The one position group we couldn't afford major injury... Damn

One positive in this is that we are by no means alone. This season is already turning into another battle of attrition across the entire league. In the league of the blind a one-eyed man is king. Another positive is that McCoy is expected to be back with almost half the season remaining. And don't forget, we went toe to toe with the Eagles with McCoy gone for all but two and a half plays.

Definitely good to bring interior linemen in for a look.

I thought Kyle Hergel (G) made progress at camp. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s elevated this week.

They definitely tried out some guys with some good experience. There has to be 1 or 2 there that can line up for us.

The Packers are 2-0 with Malik Willis starting at QB.

The Steelers are 3-0 with Justin Fields starting at QB.

The Vikings are 3-0 with Sam Darnold starting at QB.

The Eagles lost AJ Brown, Devonte Smith, and two of their best oline, during the game against us and still pulled out a win. Would you have felt better if we had McCoy and Hill but lost Olave, Shaheed, Fuaga, and Patrick?

We are still 2-1 and almost beat the Eagles, a team that nearly won the Super Bowl in 2022 and was the best team in football the first half of 2023.

There was no scenario where we weren't going to have significant injuries all season. An injury to Carr, Kamara, Fuaga, Olave, Shaheed, Granderson, Davis, or Mathieu could potentially have been just as devistating or moreso. The way Patrick and Penning shaped up at the last minute to be great contributors the first two games, we may be able to shape up a Center. And its not for all season.

Overall, we can't complain about this. We still need to produce results. Every team will have an injury like this.

The only thing we can do beyond next man up is actually control the controllable and work to have more depth in the future. We can do this by doing the most absolutely unthinkable abhorrible un-Saintly thing imaginable. No not have Gayle Benson convert to satanism and sacrifice her own life on the alter as an offering to the blocking gods, even worse. We could trade back in the draft next season and get more quality picks for depth, to start making up for the many times we have traded up and sacrificed depth for underwear models with ideal measurables masquerading as pass rushers. I hear you can draft guards or centers in the late first and second rounds, and that you can get a couple of those picks for an earlier first rounder.

I could be wrong but I think that in the history of the pro game, some teams have lost standout interior offensive linemen and gone on to win playoff games. I noticed the Eagles best interior offensive linemen from last year doing some TV work and its nice that they had the offseason to replace him with a converted tackle but we can't all have that luxury. Nonetheless he was perhaps the best interior oline in the game and they replaced him and moved on. Oh and their replacement got hurt during the game anyway so they might as well not had the offseason to replace him.

Salient points. …Sam Freaking Darnold… I remember him.

Should be 3-0 when you block a kick and get the other team to commit two turnovers.

It's not like the Saints didn't try to get younger and add depth at the OL. They cut the guys from previous drafts with whom they had invested considerable time. Still, with the new Kubiak system, it's a bit surprising we were as porous as it looked after McCoy went down. It'll be a net positive at the end of the day, if McCoy does indeed return before the season's playoffs.

Let's see what the coaches can do with the backups and a whole week to train them.

I would think that the Saints would move Ruiz to Center.

We'll see. But I don't think so. I could be wrong.
