What Dennis Allen is REALLY Saying

I'm writing this the morning after the 2024 Saints dropped their third game in a row by what Dennis Allen described as getting outplayed and outcoached" by the Kansas City Chiefs.

KC, also decimated by injuries, came up with a different plan. One they labeled "comical": https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/oth...es/ar-AA1rSrcg

With key players out, Reid has looked to an unusual mix of talent to lead the offense. Before the Monday game against the New Orleans Saints, it was announced that four tight ends - Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Jared Wiley, and Jody Fortson - would be on the active 53-man roster.

The Chiefs wasted no time showcasing a four tight end formation, as Kelce, Gray, Wiley, and Fortson joined the field for a third down and 22 situation, just over four minutes before halftime.

ESPN's Joe Buck couldn't resist a lighthearted quip about the game's odd player line-up, remarking: "If you like tight end play, this is your game."

The Chiefs' following move couldn't have been better executed. Right off the bat, quarterback Patrick Mahomes fired a quick pass to Kelce in the middle, who then edged toward the sideline before flicking a lateral to Samaje Perine. The seasoned running back seized the ball and dashed for an extra 15 yards, only to be taken down just shy of the first down marker.

What sort of creative plan did Dennis Allen devise to overcome his own teams' injuries? Nothing. Saints responded with a bland, almost "we do what we do" approach. Not only did it not work, the Saints seemed to find ANOTHER new way to lose a game...

So five games into his THIRD season as the Saints Head Coach, what Dennis Allen is REALLY telling us is this:

If things are perfect and opponents don't expect us - I'm your man. But as the season progresses, I am incapable of making adjustments and coaching at a level that keeps this team competitive. In fact, my teams will be talked about more for how we seem to lose games in the most unfathomable ways possible.
