Observations from the Saints defeating the Giants 14-11
Congrats to Brian Bresee for an amazing Special Team play to get into the backfield of the final field goal to tie and blocking it! It was a tough game for the Saints, especially the Saints special teams which were not very special. Derek Carr also made an ill-advised leap for a first down and landed on his non-throwing arm and was replaced by Haener.
Congrats Saints for the 14-11 win. What are your observations from today's game? Bang it here!! |
Observations from the Giants beating Themselves against the Saints
I am not sure I have ever seen a lower quality win. We won on a missed field goal, a penalized field goal, and a blocked field goal over won of the worst teams in the NFL and self inflicted multiple injuries to our starting QB in the process. Had the game gone to OT we almost certainly would have lost with Haener at QB. And what did we win? A lower draft pick.

We are in trouble… for the foreseeable future.

We are bad.

And apparently we missed two field goals of our own. Sounds like some really schizophrenic special teams on both sides. |

14-11 is embarrassing.

Re: Observations from the Saints defeating the Giants 14-11
What is the short term (1 year) plan for this team?
What is the 3 year plan for this team? If getting to the Superbowl and winning "Championships" is the goal, "preserving" this aging team and talking about any "window" that has frankly passed long ago, will never fulfill any goals. Celebrating .500 or less seasons is not a winning strategy. This team is not "GROWING", it's AGING and weakening and many key positions require depth and turnover, especially on defense. Also, if Coach Rizzi is such a great Special Teams coordinator, why is our Special Teams play so poor? Field goals, punts, punt returns, kickoff returns - all of them have been poor this season and the last few seasons. |

It doesn’t mean we have to be. That said the rest of the season should be interesting. Carr is officially done for the season I’m sure. |

Would it be out of the question to bring in Jared Stiham for the rest of the year?

Saints brass take note:
2 pages of discussion on one of the best (if not the best) Saints forums that exist after a Saints WIN. I remember coming here after wins or losses and seeing 20+ pages of discussion, so interest is WAY DOWN. This ain't cutting it - changes need to be made. None of us are heading for the exits to become 49ers fans, but a lot of us will vote not to vote by holding onto our dollars and not handing them over to see this #%$! show You have been warned - now off your keisters and make this team a winner again. Re: Observations from the Saints defeating the Giants 14-11
Bryan Bresee had his career game. Topping his "I-will-sacrifice-every-play" to get his usual one sack with a match-winning blocked FG. It woulda gone down in folklore had it been 1990 and we beat the Rams. However there is a time and place fopr everything, and it neither is the time or place for his plays to be folklore. But enkjoy the memory Mr Bresee. In time, I hope, I will look back and amile.
Is this game the portent for good things will be coming. Here we are winning on THAT blocked FG and I think rightly some are enjoying the maximum they can in the moment. A precident for winning in a most improbable way against still a 2-win team this term is the AFC powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs. Turn your clocks back to November 29. Kansas City beat Las Vegas Raiders (2-10) by 2 points when, in sight of a possible winning FG, the Vegas center botched the snap to end the game. In this world today, after so many decades of good and bad, both with the Saints and life generally - I say celebrate what is given. I would have been disappointed if our coaches and players were NOT animated with any success. |

I would have joined in, but I had to wash my dead grandmother's hair at the dentist.
Seriously, though, I'm paying attention, just choosing not to whinge incessantly. |

Re: Observations from the Saints defeating the Giants 14-11
It is nice that Bresee made some highlights but I am not sold. The kind of highlights I want to see most from a 1st round DT are him personally beating his man and stuffing a run or catching the QB off guard. In my opinion his sack came on a collapsed pocket where someone else would have sacked the QB if he didnt, and likely the oline had lost track of where the QB was and tried to keep Bresee in front of him but ended up leading Bresee into a collapsed pocket with the QB. Had the oline been aware of where the QB was and stayed between them, that sack doesnt happen. On the blocked kick, its nice that Bresee has hurdling skills, but I would not call it the most athletic play. He looked like Rocksteady or Beebop from a ninja turtles video game my kids plays at Chuck E Cheese. He raised his arms in the right time at the right place as his legs were nearly crumpling underneath him, and it looked very awkward and risky. Ultimately its a play that a guy his size can only try about 5-10 times before he ends up in a hospital bed next to Zion. I want to see power and speed from Bresee, not hurdling and the luck of being in the right place and time. I still just see a big clumsy awkward guy with reach who seeks highlights while ignoring the fundamentals of his position.
