To those people that told me I was wrong about drafting Brock Bowers

Told you he was going to ball. You guys were wrong, time to admit it.

Not wrong. Won’t admit it. He has played well but you never draft a TE that early, and the only reason to ever invest so much in. TE is if you are 1 player away which clearly we were not.

While Bowers had a great rookie season, TE is probably the most dangerous position to adjust from college to NFL, taking the big hits over the middle while defenseless. We still dont know that Bowers will be durable, he could be the Bo Jackson of TEs who impresses a couple years then takes the wrong big hit.

Even many Raiders fans are lamenting that they missed out in Bo Nix who went one pick earlier.

TE is the biggest crapshoot in the draft. At most positions two thirds of the all time greats come from the 1st round with a few surprises. At TE its almost an even distribution between the rounds, sure a 1st round pick can be great but not more often than a 3rd, 4th, or 5th. Its good for the Raiders that Bowers seems to be the rare 1st round TE who didnt bust, perhaps the first great pick at TE in the 1st round since Tony Gonzalez in the 90’s inbetween which many have busted and many later rounders have been great, but to me it was not worth the risk.

In a way though, we might have been better off if we took Bowers. With Penning or Oduh at Left Tackle all year we could have gone 0-17, fired Loomis, not made the costly mistake of extending Kamara, traded more veterans at the deadline, and would be in a better position long term. We could have had the worst oline of all time in the NFL and a 100 sack season may have persuaded Carr to retire and save us money. I dont think Bowers would have amassed more than 300 yards with Carr having 1 second to throw, but Olave may not have had enough targets to ever get concussed. Then we could trade back and take LT in this draft.

I could not have been more wrong about Bowers. Amazing what he's been able to do with iffy QB's in Vegas.

I liked Bowers coming out of the draft. A lot.

Fuaga was the correct pick in rd 1. The foundation is in the trenches.

I didn't even say Bowers was the wrong pick, I'm just here to join the conversation.

Fuaga was a super rare Homerun for our talent scouts. Toot your horn about how you were right, because you were. Just not right for this team.
