Should the Saints Trade Olave?
May not get much for him in light of his concussion history... However, I don't see the Saints ponying up a massive second contract for him.

If the Saints front office have any issues about Olave's health, they definitely need to consider a trade.
May 2nd is the deadline to make a decision on picking up his 5th year option. |
Re: Should the Saints Trade Olave?
Yes they should consider trading him if they can get a 2nd or 3rd round pick. If all thats on the table is a 4th round pick or later, its probably smarter to wait it out and either trade him during the season for more if a team is desperate, or take the cheap year and then hope for a comp pick if he signs elsewhere in 2026.
If we look at Olave's history its very possible that he can play the first 4-6 games productively without a concussion, increase his trade value, possibly get dealt for a 2nd or 3rd rounder to a contender that needs a receiver, and then have his imminent concussions on their watch. There is no way the Saints should pick up his 5th year option. That is $15 million guaranteed in 2026 for a player who could easily retire or never be cleared to play again after the 2025 season in which its more likely than not that he will have 1-2 concussions. If there is any hope for Olave to better learn to protect himself, as many changes to his coaching, offense, and team as possible would be helpful. Although the Saints have a new head coach, they have retained their receivers coach, and there are fears they could retain their QB. |

I would rather strengthen our WR room. Not weaken it.
