Memorial Day Weekend

Someone had to start the thread...

First and foremost, I appreciate all who served on ultimately died for my freedom and I don't take that lightly. Most, if not all of us, have friends or family members that gave their life for what I still consider the best country on the planet (warts and all).

Today I'll be installing a tow hitch on my wife's Subaru. Almost everyone on the road system here has a Subaru.

Tomorrow after church I'll take my bike out of my truck and bike Farmers Loop. It's about 14 miles long. Not incredibly challenging but it's a good way to get right.

Monday morning I plan to drive about an hour north of Fairbanks on what's called the Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay. There was a fire in this area last year and I'm going to look for morel mushrooms. (I'm getting in touch with my inner hippie, Cruise:D). I just won't drive there in the Subaru. I can only handle so much hypocrisy.
And of course, the pièce de résistance, burgers and brats Monday night with family.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

My wife has me slaving in the yard. My Zoysia grass looks good, however.

Happy Memorial Holiday weekend, WhoDats!

I've seen the results of your hard work in landscaping. You might not be impressed with my yard but I'm surrounded by trees and no neighbors in sight.

Trees up by your neck of the woods are impressive . I'd love your kind of privacy. I've recently successfully planted a Cali Redwood, a Monkey Pine, a few Eastern Red Cedars, pear and peach tree, Elephant Ears, red bark Japanese maple, two redbuds, trimmed for the first time the crepe myrtles and the rain predictor Texas Sage with it's purple flowers . All four magnolias are doing good, Southern, sweet bay, Japanese with the purple flowers and another with yellow flowers , I've spread a few rose of Sharons around with various flower colors, two Texas Lilacs (vitrex). Recently added a yellow queen Elizabeth rose and a bay leaf tree . For some reason the azaleas are taking their sweet time , as are the camelias. My hydrangeas finally settled down. They're merely the white ones , however . We're on the process of filling in with smaller stuff underneath. Two blue berries , 3 above ground planters currently giving us some fresh tomatoes and other fresh legumes . Street side we have about 4-5 of the soon to be large Agave cactus. Requires no watering .

Grandkids love the green space . Precisely why I built it as such . And we get to enjoy BnG from the back covered porch.

Tonight fixing smoked tuna atop Boursin cheese over avocado and cucumbers . Searing some Alaskan sable fish adorned with homemade Pico de gayo... And adult beverages of course .

A big part of my topic starter was to see what everyone on this forum is doing this weekend, though I worry that it came across as self-serving. We've got people here that are from all over and I truly want to know what everyone is up to. Even our posters from other parts of the world.

Have my older son and his fiancée in town since Friday. All Saturday was spent out by the pool with dogs off the grill and a brisket I threw on Friday evening to slow smoke. Sunday we had a ton of extended family over for a crawfish boil and pool party with six young kids running everyone ragged. Memorial Day the four of us just recovered playing some games eating leftover while storms washed some of the aftermath away. Today is being spent with cleaning up the damage, emptying the boil and soak pots, etcetera.

Was supposed to have my younger son from Tennessee and his wife in, as well, but their property in Clarksville got hit by a tornado last week and caused them to cancel.
