Former Saints TE Jimmy Graham completes Arctic Challenge with crew, rowing 584 miles in record time

Former New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham is in the record books -- for rowing.

Graham and his team completed the Arctic Challenge, rowing roughly 584 nautical miles across the Arctic Ocean in a little over 10 days, per the Saints' official team website. The pace broke the previous record for a team of four -- 15 days, 5 hours and 32 minutes.

Graham joined a crew that included Andrew Tropp, Hannah Huppi and John Huppi. The team set out on July 4 from Tromsø, Norway and arrived in Longyearbyen, Svalbard on July 14.

The team set several firsts with its expedition: It was the first mixed-gender team of four to row across the Arctic Ocean and the first all-American team to row across a polar ocean. Graham became the first Black person to row a polar ocean. Hannah Huppi was the first American woman to row a polar ocean.

The crew used the voyage to help raise money for Covenant House New Orleans and Laureus Sport for Good New Orleans, with a goal of raising $1 million -- one dollar for every meter rowed.

Graham, 38, last played in the NFL in 2023, catching six passes for 39 yards and four scores in 13 games for New Orleans.

Sean Payton traded away a future HOF TE for a decent Centre.

Another head scratching decision.

Hmmm. Our new resident expert on everything Saints, Bako, says that getting rid of Graham, who he implied was less than the rest of us felt was gifted, was a good thing.

I'm not sure who needs head scratching now.

Per Loomis, he won’t have to since his last team was NOLA :bng:

He may have to wait. Not sure Jimmy has the consistent numbers that will get him the nod but most definitely a shoe in SAINTS Hall of FAME.

Max Unger was a bit more than “decent” in New Orleans though. He played at a high level and was an All Pro under Payton/Brees system.

I’m more pissed on how they fumbled that first rd pick (Stephone Anthony) in the trade .

Unger worked out better than Olin Kreutz...
Quote:

Of course, his career likely didn’t finish in the manner in which he intended, as the two-time All-Pro left the Saints after appearing in only four games. This was following an incident in which Kreutz threw New Orleans superstar quarterback Drew Brees into a wall.

Not sure if our recollection of Grahams last season as a Saint or what he was costing us are the same. :bng:

Sorry, Realized I hadn't clarified. What I meant more, was that Graham would have been HOF, if he stayed here past 2014.

Not that he's a HOF player now, as I don't think he is.

I can't really remember the number if I'm honest.

But I do recall Payton giving Jairus Byrd all the money in the world and letting Graham and his 900+ yards and 10+ TD's per year walk away.

Graham had 889 yards and 10 TD's in 2014, his final year before being traded. He just finished the first year of his four year $40 million deal. No one after Payton and Brees were able to get the same numbers from him.

I remember Payton wanting Unger badly, but Seattle would only do a deal if we threw Graham into the mix.
