Quarterbacks
I’ve been in the Spencer Rattler camp since last year and all of camp this year. As far as him and Shough go I think Rattler is the better QB right now, however if I’m Moore and Loomis I pick up the phone immediately and bring in Sam Ehlinger to compete. He definitely looks more polished and does a great job of avoiding pressure and extending plays. With our offensive line situation currently that could make for a good fit.

Re: Quarterbacks
I think the "competition" (if we can call it that) has been so evenly matched, in that neither of them really played well, that I think it has to go to Shough.
I want whoever is the better player, but I think Rattler had to absolutely prove he deserved it over the "guy they drafted." To me, if the competition was going to be close, then they'd just choose the guy they drafted. Unfortunately it's been close in the sense that, neither of them look good. |
Re: Quarterbacks
I was ready to throw this season out the window but it sure would be a shame because this defense looks like it could be really good.

Re: Quarterbacks
What's the old saying... if you got two QBs you don't have any QBs? While there is some truth to that, your QB Ehlinger has been in the league longer than 6 months. I wouldn't be fooled by his preseason flash with personnel that in reality won't even make the cut in less than a week. Same for Rattler in terms of being in the league longer than Shough. Rattler should be the more polished QB of the bunch. As I posted in a previous thread, I suspect we'll see it play out during the year. It's the right decision to begin the season with the Bayou Rattler. If he needs "depends diapers" because he's chitting on the field, Tyler Shough should be further along then to take over, a la Brock Purdy. If neither work out, this will be a 17 week tryout period for both QBs and we'll be drafting Nussmeier or someone like him early in the draft next year.
Haener is the early odd man out. He's merely backup material at this level, like Ehrlinger. I would have loved to see Hunter Dekkers. But methinks the Saints will stash him until next year. Heck he may be our third QB this year. A lefty like him would be cool. Steve Young was an accomplished lefty HOF QB. |
Re: Quarterbacks
Rat has shown nothing in year two that would lead me to believe he has the ability to start in the NFL. Shough has played just as good with only 4 months under him. No way Moore starts Rattler.

Re: Quarterbacks
Most likely we'll be in the QB market next year. I wouldn't worry about addressing it right now unless a Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson became available.

Re: Quarterbacks
Meh … haven’t been impressed with either QB tbh.
To my untrained eye, I’m not seeing much improvement from Rattler. Grupe is going to get a lot of scoring opportunities in 2025. |

Re: Quarterbacks
This is where I think about KC Leapfrogging us in the draft and taking Mahomes. Had we got Mahomes that year, 100% guaranteed Sean is still here and we have at least one more SB trophy.
That being said, I say let Rattler have it. But at the same time you could argue you he’s already been in the league a year and should have separated himself a bit more from the competition. I don’t think either of them will be starting anywhere in a couple of years. Unless we are stuck with them. The only time they do anything is against the other teams scrubs. If we win more than 3-4 games this year I will be stunned. |
Re: Quarterbacks
Also quit calling him Bayou Rattler. It’s goofy/cheesy.

Re: Quarterbacks
At this stage, you just have to start the QB that can run the fastest. Because our offense line is peppered with injuries. AGAIN. What are these guys made of? Paper and pansies? And the backups getting injured? Cmon. How is this happening over and over again?
Good grief, just draft offensive lineman next year. See if you can find a couple that are more durable than the TP I wipe my ass with. |

Re: Quarterbacks
3 to 5 wins. Take your lumps. Cap is getting corrected. Rebuilding year. Without a QB it is really difficult to compete. You don't have one. Your hope should be how hard they compete. Keep adding young talent, and in 2 years could be really good.

Thank you Mr. Team and Player excuse maker guy. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah “20-0” blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. I don’t care about other teams, players, coaches, front offices or anything else. I also don’t buy into the excuse that what’s happening with my team is more acceptable because it is or has happened somewhere else. Blah blah blah |

And, no, I wouldn't call injuries acceptable, but I do know they are all part of the game. They are unfortunate, but cannot be blamed on anyone in most cases. But I agree it might behoove us to load up on more o-linemen in the draft hoping that it can result in more depth. |
