Where's Saintz08?
LummOx,
The bottom line is this.... No matter how good of a job any EMPLOYEE does, if they have any sense at all, before they make a big decision, it would be a good idea and common sense to get the ok from the BOSS. They might be better than the owner at what they do, but, to isolate an owner from major decisions will get you right were Mueller is today..... UNEMPLOYED [Edited on 7/8/2003 by BillyCarpenter1] |

Where's Saintz08?
Doug Williams ??? In his prime he was wearing a bullseye on his Buc\'s jersey .
For a number 2 quarterback , Bouman has proven he can play in his prime , he holds a club records in Minnesota , had the confidence from his coaching staff for them to bench an ineffective Daunte Culpepper ( this alone too me seems a miracle , considering last season) and has a cap friendly contract . Now considering the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints is a former #3 pine rider in Green Bay , I say things are looking up . In a day when trades seem a thing of the past and free agency is the hot ticket , for the Saints management to go out and get a player like Bouman , who brings his talent , experience , knowledge ( especially of who his former team is going to pick )and is cap friendly for the position , I am impressed ............ |

They\'re so confident they signed him to a ONE year deal.

You know what, I did it too - but that doesn\'t change the fact that your opinion then was based on as little information as 08 is saying now. Or all of you guys who think the T. Jones trade was so great. How is that different? |

I\'m having a little trouble fitting all the peices together in your logical jig saw puzzle. Let\'s go with facts here. First, Bouman has proven he can have a few good games. Nothing more. Nothing less. If he had proven everything that you claim, then the Vikings are damn fools for getting rid of such a rare talent. Now I\'m not saying he doesn\'t have potential to be as great as you say, but as the old saying goes: Potential means you haven\'t done it yet. Now the hardest part of the puzzle you presented me was comparing Brooks status as a 3rd string QB from Green Bay to Bouman being a back-up for the Vikes, and then going on to tell me that because of that, things are looking up in New Orleans. Do you have a sledge hammer, I\'m going to need it if I\'m ever going to get the peices to fit.......... [Edited on 7/8/2003 by BillyCarpenter1] |

I don\'t want you to be left out of my wrath so.................... Again, lets stick with facts here. Aaron Brooks came in off the bench and led the Saints to their first playoff win in history. Has Bouman done this for the Vikings or the Saints? NO!! Now I know your going to say I\'m nit-picking, but there is a hell of difference here. Haslett would have been a damn fool to put Blake back in the following season and if he would have he would have probably been fired if things didn\'t go well. ...and the debate rages on. Quite simply those of us pro Brooks folks are that way becase we recognize what the man brings to the table. We realize it takes time to develop and we\'re willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Those on the other side of the fence are frustrated, in part, because they thought someone else should have been given the job. It matters not that the someone else in question had numerous oppurtunities to win the job long before (and while) Brooks ever put on a Saints Uniform. They counter by saying Haz favors Brooks. Well, Haz wasn\'t the only guy who decided not to start this \"someone else\". That doesn\'t matter tho...not to those anti-Brooks folks. They won\'t acknowledge that fact cause it makes sense, and there\'s no way to counter it...not and make any real sense anyway.
Statistics won\'t prove anything either way. I can tell \'em how many records Brooks has set or will set as a Saints QB and all they\'ll do is tell me the records he\'s breaking weren\'t set by anyone that mattered. I can talk to \'em about all the TD\'s and they\'ll start screaming about the completion percentage. Don\'t dare bring up dropped passes in that debate either, cause they won\'t hear it (again, no real way to counter that). They won\'t see what\'s right in front of their collective face because the REAL reason they dis Brooks has very little to do with his performance on the field. Sure, Aaron has room for improvement, but how can you dislike a guy so much when his stats don\'t warrant it? You can do that when what you\'re REALLY pissed about has nothing to do with the stats and/or the play on the field. |

Billy - no sledge hammer needed here .
Brooks - 3rd string pine rider , traded to New Orleans for a third round pick Bouman - 2nd string player with previous gametime N.F.L. experience and record holder for the Vikings , with a few wins under his belt , traded to New Orleans for a 6th round selection. Saints got more for less .... Now with Gandy on the left side trying to keep up with Rice for 2 games , who knows what happens . Just for you Saintsfan : :o The Saints most likely signed Bouman to a 1 year contract , in an attempt not to hurt Brooks fragile ego ......... |

whoa there little doggie,,,,,,i have to agree with saintz08,(as a matter of fact saintz08, where the hell were you when i was debating this issue) and if you go back on my posts , i have been a bouman fan since they got him.........i have already stated i believe bouman can come in just as arron did with blake and take the job away.......mindblowing you say...........put him in..........i\'ll go with him to lead us there before brooks........and only signed to one yr you say? watch what happens if something goes down and bouman shines..........that contract will be quickly adjusted.....bottom line......i believe we have upgraded at quarterback not only with bouman but with tory as well, (say goodbye to jt i would guess) and if haslett does\'nt blow it again, we could go further than ever before..........just let me see bouman against the eagles for a few quarters..........i also think he will shine............smitty

Not saying a single negative thing about Mr. Bouman. I\'m glad we\'ve got him and I think he\'s an upgrade at out #2 slot and yeah I think he could start. Just pondering outloud about how/why some folks are against Brooks...ANYbody over Brooks...and why? Is he really that bad...honestly, no, he\'s really that good, AND he\'ll only get better.

Saints to start Todd Bouman over Aarron Brooks in 2003. After questioning Jim Haslett about his decision to start Bouman he said: \" Look, the guys thrown 95 passes in the NFL and completed 54 of them. How could you even ask a foolish question like that? Geez guys, what more proof do you need that this guy is a proven NFL quarterback?\" Jimmy Haz then went on to say: \"Bouman is a proven and polished QB that set numerous records in Minnesota, and Aaron only threw for 3,400 yds and 27TD\'s last year. We feel based off what Bouman has done in his career, our QB position will be much more productive.\" One reporter questioned Haz on starting Bouman based on his is limited time on the field..... Haz said- \" Playing time on the field really means nothing when evaluating a NFL QB. Three games is more than enough. You guys in the media are always trying to start QB controversies, but fortunately for me, we have some very knowlegeable fans here in New Orleans and they know that Bouman is a far superior QB than Aaron Brooks can ever hope to be.\" Well, there you have it folks, right from Jim Haslett himself. I have to say I was a little skeptical at first, but after Jim explained the logic behind his decision, I am throughly convinced that he\'s making the right choice. Haslett did say that the Carolina Panthers are interested in trading Jake Delhome and a 1st round draft choice for Brooks if he is released. [Edited on 7/8/2003 by BillyCarpenter1] |

Where's Saintz08?
Bouman signing a one year contract has very little to do with the teams confidence in him. Bouman likely wanted only a one year deal. Why? Because he feels that there may be some turmoil in the QB position based on the fan reaction to Brooks last year. The team doesn\'t think that IMO. Bouman probably thinks he has a potential chance to get into a few games a) if Brooks re-injures the shoulder, or b) Haslett may be quicker to go to the bench based on last years booing escapade. He likely doesn\'t want to lock in long term, but to showcase enough that another team will take a shot like they did with Delhomme. Also it makes sense for the team like Smitty said since it lets fans and Brooks know that they aren\'t getting Bouman to be the future. I bash Brooks as much as the next guy, but I\'ll nitpick weakness in anyone just for fun, but the guy is our starter, and there isn\'t a big list of guys I\'d rather have.

Soon to be heard in the Superdome ????? Backup QB Syndrome in Force By John Holler Date: Nov 17, 2002 It shouldn\'t come as any surprise if many Vikings fans start the chant to bench Daunte Culpepper today if things go badly against the Packers. When you think about it, backup QBs are a rich tradition in Minnesota\'s revolving door QB policy. Let’s hope Daunte Culpepper isn\'t a news junkie. In fact, let’s hope he’s a recluse when it comes to the media. For the past month, Culpepper has been called everything from a has-been to bum from local sports talk radio to national sports television. In one Twin Cities newspaper, a shortsighted columnist summed up the Vikings loss to the Giants by pleading for Todd Bouman to be the starter. In the other newspaper in the Twin Cities, a reader poll is still underway discussing Culpepper. The question asked doesn\'t wonder if Culpepper will be yanked from today’s game, it asks “when will Daunte Culpepper get pulled? The media attention to his struggles intensified when he was pulled from last Sunday’s game – a contest in the third quarter that, at the time of his being told he was being benched, the team still trailed by just seven points. From that moment on, Culpepper has endured the worst week of his life. Everybody, it seems, has an opinion. Most are weak opinions – trade him, keep him on the bench, cut him – but they show how passionate people are about changing things around for the better. Bouman has become the fair-haired boy, just as Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, Randall Cunningham and Jeff George were before him. He can do no wrong in their eyes. It may not help that, in nine quarters – just a little more than two games -- as the Vikings quarterback, Bouman has found Randy Moss 20 times for 412 yards and four touchdowns. Perhaps it has been the conditioning of Vikings fans to want somebody new at quarterback. It’s nothing new -- it\'s become a trademark of the Vikings in recent years. The last franchise quarterback the Vikings had was Tommy Kramer. From 1979-86, Kramer was the guy out there almost every Sunday during the time when the Purple People Eaters of the ‘70s were ferreted out one by one – including coach Bud Grant and the guy he replaced, Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton. For the next three years starting in 1987, Kramer began taking a back seat to backup Wade Wilson – the Todd Bouman of his generation. That would start the ball rolling. |

When Brooks took over for Jeff Blake he immediately set the NFL world on fire. In eight starts (including playoffs) he had a 400 yard passing game, a 100 yard rushing game, two 4 TD passes games and a 2 TD rushing game. These are feats that are unheard of from any NFL starter.
Now I know all of you Books haters are going to tell me that this means nothing, because of how poorly Brooks has played since then, especially last year. (3,400 yards and 27 TD\'s) We need to keep this game of QB musical chairs going on forever. Put Bouman in- he stinks-call Archie Manning out of retirement. But the only thing this would accomplish is that in a hundred years or so from now, all of you Brooks bashers would learn to give a QB enough time to develop. Nah...most of you have been watching football your whole life and you still don\'t get it.. Todd Bouman- I\'m warning you there are fans out there that will be calling for your head in a year or so....... |
Where's Saintz08?
So what has Bouman done ??
Only made some second guess a top 5 , 102 million dollar quarterback in only playing a couple of games ....... He did not have the luxury of Culpepper breaking his foot and going out for the season to get valuable playing time in the N.F.L. . He was only good enough to make a Head Coach look at Culpepper and say \" Sit your butt down , we are putting Bouman in \" . And by the way he was only good enough to have Haslett take note of him and trade for him .................. |
Where's Saintz08?
saintz08,
I think Todd has some god given talents at QB. I think I remember reading he was the slam dunk champion in college. I also know he has one heck of an arm. He performed very well in those games you speak of. I think he is capiable of leading an NFL team. The only thing is, Brooks has done nothing to justify him not being the starter. Brooks has done some amazing things himself and he\'s just now at the point where he should step up and be the leader that everyone is calling for him to be. I really have no problem with anyone calling for his head, it goes along with the position and just about every great QB goes through this at some point. Aaron will settle my argument on the field this year. Till then the GREAT DEBATE will go on and on and on and on.........like the Energizer Bunny.... |
Where's Saintz08?
Saintsfan ,
I am willing to let you off the hook in some sense , that instride fly and bye thought may be too much . Here is the other thought : I am willing to settle for some sort of measure of crow , if Brooks does not punk out when cousin Vick is on the same field as him . I am losing my taste for Dirty Bird ......... |

if you go back on ashley\'s talk about playing the saints when he was in atlanta, you hafta believe they pulled out all the tricks when they played us......and if the defense had come through, it may have been a different ball game......this yr i feel they\'ll just be trying to stay with us because we\'ll manhandle em......once we ring vicks bell a few times you can turn out the light,,,the parties over.......and we will ring his bell.......smitty

Yeah I read this on that site. I don\'t know if anyone watched NFL Live last night, but Bryan Cox said the saints would win the NFC South, and said the defense is much improved. He also said that the falcons defense was overrated and that Keith Brookings was overrated also. He later said that Brooks was hurt last season and that he shouldn\'t have been on the field. He said Tebucky was on of the top 3-safties in the league.
All of this was very upsetting to Falcons Fans of course. I went to a Falcons site and dropped a few lines in to get their reaction about the Saints and I can tell you they are worried about all the weapons we have on offense and they think our defense is improved. |

Where's Saintz08?
Yea the dirty-chickens over-reactions and pathetic gradescholl reaches and insults remind me of a great quote.
\"Methinks thou protesteth too much\" Its pretty obvious for those intelligent enough to read between the lines that they are extremely worried about us. They know if it weren\'t for two horrible officiating calls they would have lost both games to us. Vick\'s weaknesses were exposed late (thanks bucs). We all know how to beat him now. The Bucs stayed the same, The Falcons improved slightly if any, The Panthers improved a lot (Del Rio\'s loss will be noticed though) The Saints improved immensely (more that all 3 of the above combined) Falcons won\'t win 9 games, and they know it. |
