Theory Thread

Why Bouman? Why now?

Negative guesses:
Maybe he stinks so bad that Brooks will look like superman after these three games, therefor receiving more attention from other teams?

Maybe Benson is making an attempt to further submarine this team and it's current home in New Orleans?

Positive guesses:
Haslett trying to turn things around?

The o-line would rather block for a QB that's not such an arrogant ass?

Positive-Negative guess:
Team trying harder to lose out in hopes for a better draft pick?

Any answers? Any more theories?

RE: Theory Thread

maybe haz has finally given up on brooks :goodidea: just like the rest of us

pakowitz, pakowitz... I know I've heard that name before. It's been so long. Kinda fuzzy.

Evidently you have a life outside of a website dedicated to such a poor team. Welcomed back, you are.

pakowitz 12-15-2005 04:49 PM

yea i do.. but its not much of one.... :bananajoy:

Eventhough it is denied, I believe Brooks is benched for his negative NFL, owner, and coach complaints.
He's been crappy all year, and done dumb enough things to get him benched on any other pro, college, or high school team througout his career.
It's no coincidence that he does this interview then benched a few days later.
Also, Haslett and Brooks have an umbilical cord between them. With Momma Haslett gone soon, so is Baby Brooks.

I think that you're probably right, fact. Playing poorly is one thing, popping off at the organization is another.

CheramieIII 12-15-2005 06:20 PM

He was benched by Haslett because I actually think that Haslett doesn't really want to be fired. He wants to save his job and by asking to be fired he may have invoked some sympathy thoughts from Benson, who may just give him 1 more year and base any long term contact on next season.

Welcome back Pakman.

pakowitz 12-15-2005 07:15 PM

actually i heard or read somewhere that haz asked benson to fire him but benson refused... so ur guess is as good as mine

Why Bouman now? Hm. Well, there's no argument we want to -try- to get something (anything) for Brooks, so we can't afford him getting injured. But why Bouman over A-Mac? I'm not sure. I'd play A-Mac now.... but guesses are following:

1) A-Mac isn't ready physically? Don't want to get him hurt before he's ready for testing?

2) A-Mac doesn't know the playbook yet?

3) Bouman is expendable, saving A-Mac for next year?

4) Bouman looks better than A-Mac? (I find this one hard to believe, unless A-Mac doesn't even know the playbook yet. Even then, I still find it hard to believe.)

Whatever the answer is, I think the rest of this season is going to look like preseason games. I suspect talent evaluation will be the theme for the remaining games.

I'm thinking the same sorts of things. Seems much more reasonable to have 10-12 plays that McPherson can actually run just to see what he can do than to spend game time trying to figure out if our 33 year old back up is the "future". Too ridiculous for words.

Besides, for most of the first half this week AB only threw 9 yard hooks. I'm sure McPherson could at least manage that. Or put a few option plays in with McPherson and Stecker. Were I the front office about now, I'd sure like to know whether my first draft pick was either going to be used to draft a QB or traded to San Diego for Rivers. We just can't know that without seeing what McPherson can do against some real defenses. At worst case, we give our opponents a heavy dose of Smith and the power running game, McPherson should be able to manage some hand-offs at least.
