Race for Reggie Bush now includes five teams

By Len Pasquarelli

Once just a two-team horse race, the Reggie Bush Derby has suddenly been joined by several more entries, and it may take the NFL equivalent of a photo finish next Sunday evening to determine the outcome of the chase for the top spot in the 2006 draft.

With the possibility that Bush, under at least one scenario, could be knocked out of the winner's circle.

If Houston wins and we lose there is no one that can touch our SOS and that's the bottom line cuz Stone Cold said so.

not true..if we lose ,houston wins AND the JETS lose ..we tie the jets..they get the tie breaker since we beat them..but i dont think they will try to lose on purpose and they are playin buffalo which is an easy game..i cant believe im sayin this but i hope the saints suck it up and lose sunday..OUCH..THAT HURT..I THINK IM GONNA PUKE

Bee I don't think head to head comes into play in the draft game and if it does show me the way.

Were the Saints to secure the top pick, it might alter the landscape of the '06 draft, and could keep Bush from being the top player chosen. The Saints already have a standout tailback in Deuce McAllister and, even though he is currently rehabilitating from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the New Orleans star is expected to be fully recovered well in advance of training camp. Plus, the Saints last summer signed McAllister to a new $50.1 million contract and would probably be reluctant to make another lucrative investment in the tailback position.

New Orleans, which will probably jettison veteran quarterback Aaron Brooks after the season, might be more inclined to address its needs at that critical position. And that could thrust Bush's Southern California teammate and fellow Heisman Trophy winner, Matt Leinart, into the top spot. Then again, given that Saints owner Tom Benson claims to have lost $45 million this season as a result of Hurricane Katrina, he might not want the top spot and the financial realities one incurs with it, and could trade the pick.

Unless there's an ownership change, this is a very real scenario. :bang:

if we lose, the jets lose, and houston wins ..the jets and us will be tied for last place..how do you suppose they decide who gets first pick?i think its head to head and if we didnt play each other it goes to strength of schedule..doesnt that sound right?

Actually, that's not right at all. Head to head is never a consideration when it comes to the draft. They go to a coin flip if two teams have the same record, and same weak SOS. If your scenario plays out, we lose, Jets lose, Hou wins, we will pick number one.

BeeoBee 12-28-2005 11:42 AM

if we lose and the jets lose it goes to coin flip??we will have the same record and have to flip a coin?!?thats crap!!if it comes to that we'll for sure have 2nd pick..no way we're gonna win a coin flip

Christ almighty. It only goes to the coin flip if we have the same SOS. I am pretty sure we will still have the weakest SOS of all the 3-13 teams once this week plays out.

spkb25 12-28-2005 07:20 PM

there is NO reason to win this last game. if we can get bush i would love it. if we get matt i will be less excited. i thik deuce is done. i hope i am wrong but i just don't see anything from the guy over the last two years that mnakes me think other. get bush and we can build around him. i think the guy is going to be great.

spkb25 12-28-2005 07:21 PM

trade deuce now if we can for whatever we can get.

Elaborate?

If you are the New Orleans Saints, you trade the #1 pick. This team has too many needs to address. This might be the best thing that could have ever happened to the Saints. Tags, you want Bush in N.Y.? Tell the Jets it's going to cost them their 1st 5 rounds. And make it happen, Tags, this franchise has been **** on enough. :furious:

I believe you're referring to 2003

3 71 Nate Burleson WR Nevada
4 105 Onterrio Smith RB Oregon
6 180 Eddie Johnson P Idaho State
6 190 Mike Nattiel OLB Florida

Not a bad draft..... I'd take it ;)

saintswhodi 12-29-2005 08:32 AM

I think he meant the part about where they forgot to get their draft card in on time, and fell 3 spots. :P

To you and your band of merry men? You're right, that's not what I said. I think it was more like, "you take one more step, and your ass is going out the mother-****ing window" :08:
