Saints' Benson was San Antonio included in '06 mix
New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson suggested he would not be opposed to a split home schedule next season as long as San Antonio is in the mix. "Divide it up, you know how much I like San Antonio," Benson said Saturday after the Saints closed their three-game Alamodome schedule with a 13-12 loss to Detroit before an announced crowd of 63,747. Benson is expected to make his case for playing games in the Alamodome next season and perhaps beyond when he meets this week with NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue in San Antonio. Tagliabue also will meet with Saints players, many of whom have expressed frustration that no decision has yet been made about where the team will train and play in 2006. "It's still being finalized, but (Tagliabue) is planning to fly in late next week," said Greg Aiello, NFL vice president of public relations. Aiello said there are no plans for Tagliabue to meet with Mayor Phil Hardberger or other city officials. Benson and his attorney Stanley Rosenberg have been informally discussing scenarios with Hardberger, his advisors and other city officials that would provide for permanent relocation of the team to San Antonio.
