Mike Martz scheduled for interview.

Did anyone see this on WWL news this morning? They said he is scheduled to interview within the upcoming week. I have not seen it anywhere else as of know.

I personally do not like the guy. I think he has made some bad coaching decisions over the past couple of years, and he does not properly utlize the players and their talents.

Interested in some opinions..................

oooooo. not him please.

saintswhodi 01-06-2006 10:59 AM

I'd take Haslett back, before I took Martz. And everyone knows how I feel about Haslett.

MordorIV 01-06-2006 10:59 AM

agree with you on that one.

Euphoria 01-06-2006 11:03 AM

If he took over the only thing that would improve is our offense, a couple of more wins a year at best. I so would have like Childress...

AllSaints 01-06-2006 11:03 AM

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... out of breath....

MordorIV 01-06-2006 11:07 AM

No thats right AS

Euphoria 01-06-2006 11:12 AM

Martz means well snag Bush (Falk type player), we'll be a cross between USC and Rams, keeping Deuce and perhpas brooks...

Saints contact Martz after contract is settled

The New Orleans Saints called Mike Martz on Thursday night about their head-coaching vacancy. According to league sources, Martz was contacted by Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. A tentative visit with the Saints and Martz is planned for the end of next week.

This development occurred on the day the Rams officially severed ties with Martz, finalizing a settlement for the final year of his coaching contract.

"We settled all our contract issues with Mike and wish him the best of luck in the future," Rams president John Shaw said Thursday evening.

Shaw would not disclose the amount of the settlement. But it's believed to be in the neighborhood of about half the $3.25 million Martz was scheduled to make next season.

Normally, coaches who are fired in the NFL receive their full remaining salary. But with the threat of a grievance procedure by the Rams for "cause" - specifically, news reports of alleged comments by Martz that Shaw and the Rams weren't all that interested in winning - Martz decided to settle out his contract for less money and get on with his life.

Martz's agent, Bob LaMonte, did not return a phone message Thursday. Martz spent Thursday on the golf course with his brothers in San Diego and could not be reached for comment.

The Saints fired head coach Jim Haslett after a tumultuous season in which the club played "home" games in Baton Rouge, La.; San Antonio, Texas; and New York because of the Hurricane Katrina destruction in New Orleans.

The absolute perfect match for Benson: Arrogant, inconsiderate, and thinks he knows everything. We need a coach with some knowledge of defense. Martz has none.

Martz will get the Saints to LA faster than Haslett would have. This would suck.

johnnyhomey 01-06-2006 01:27 PM

Hello again from StL!

I read this today & about fell out of my chair.

I'd rather they dig up Tom Fears than put Good Ole' Shootin' & Fixin' on the Saints sideline.

MordorIV 01-06-2006 01:33 PM

LA here we come

This guy's insane and arrogant...... surely the Saints wouldn't be dumb enough to hire him would they? O wait, I think I know the answer to that one....

sarge06 01-06-2006 03:40 PM

Please No

Milians 01-06-2006 04:15 PM

I hope we get Martz. The man is an offensive genius and a proven developer of QB's. More importantly, The rams went to the playoffs almost every year during his tenure. We need someone who will get our offense to fully realize it's potential. Since it looks likely that we will select a QB with the second pick in this year's draft, I think Martz would be an ideal selection.

saintswhodi 01-06-2006 04:23 PM

Martz would be great if we were looking for an OC, but not as a head coach.

A) Warner and Bulger got CREAMED behind his ofensive lines. Bulger hasn't beenhealthy EVER. Even when his QB is being pounded, he still runs 4 WR sets and lets them keep taking a pounding

B) He forgets he had Marshall Faulk and Stephen Jackson.

C) The players were about to mutiny on him, and management had to tack up a memo in the locker room stating he was still in control of the team. Why oh why would we want that here?
OC, sure. HC, hell no.

sarge06 01-06-2006 04:26 PM

Thank you Whodi

sarge06 01-06-2006 04:29 PM

Does anyone know of any other coaches who they are relly considering other than Martz and Henderson. I have heard all the speculations. But does anyone know some canidates that they are high on?

I really would not mind Henderson.

spkb25 01-06-2006 05:19 PM

this is a bad idea. he didn't win a super bowl with maybe the best o in history. after dick left they kept getting worse. if we hire him please punch me in the face and shoot me in the head

Milians 01-06-2006 05:56 PM

Lets be rational about this. The head coaching job in New Orleans is not exactly the most sought after head coaching gig in the league. People are not going to be beating down the door at saint's camp for a chance to work for Benson. We are not going to have our pick of the available coaches. Opinions in the mainstream media seem to agree that Martz is going to be a great hire as a head coach for some franchise. Peter King was on inside the NFL this past thursday talking about what a great hire Martz would be for the saints. Like him or not, the man is the premier developer of QB's in the league. For a team that has the 2nd pick in the draft and seems destined to pick a QB, it is the perfect choice.

AllSaints 01-06-2006 06:00 PM

Martz is stupid literally he dosent pay attention in the games.....

CheramieIII 01-06-2006 06:04 PM

I would take Martz over Haz but would not have him as my first choice. I would rather take Kubiak or Mooch and yes I said Mooch, but only if the owner is willing to let him control the team, not the other way around.

spkb25 01-06-2006 06:11 PM

i like me some mooch

saintswhodi 01-06-2006 06:14 PM

Martz gets QB's killed. Yeah, that's good for your franchise QB.

spkb25 01-06-2006 06:15 PM

martz doesn't know the clock either. anyone remember that.

Milians 01-06-2006 10:43 PM

Don't get me wrong, Martz wouldn't be my first choice either. I would personally prefer Kubiak. I was calling for Kubiak when the saints hired Haslett. The realities are that chances of us landing Kubiak are slim and none. Martz, however, is a major upgrade over Haslett. He also has a proven track record when it comes to offense in the NFL. I am not sold on any of the assistants the saints are looking at. I would rather have Martz than Henderson or Payton. Lets just wait and see what the brilliant Mickey Loomis has up his magical sleeve before we get to worked up.

shonboy 01-06-2006 11:51 PM

we would score 40 and lose 41-40 every week....haslett gets coaching intrst...i once coached a t ball team to a 38-19 victory a few months ago...but no one has called me yet....herm was my guy, why am i wearin a bridal gown? pass the budah rickey! can n.e.1 give me j. simpsons # i here shes on the market...and i would like to interview her for the vacancy on the left side of my bed......Cujo was a lab

WTF?
Crack kills homie.

sarge06 01-07-2006 08:22 AM

This was on ESPN.com

Martz heads Saints' list
<Jan. 6> The Saints have added Mike Martz to their growing list of coaching candidates, The Times-Picayune is reporting. The Saints contacted the former Rams coach on Jan. 5 to arrange an interview for late next week, a league source told the paper.
The Saints met with Cowboys assistant head coach Sean Payton on Jan. 4. They also have scheduled interviews with Browns offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon and Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson. The team has asked permission to speak with Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, according to sources, but there are no indications that an interview has been scheduled.

BoudinSandwich 01-07-2006 11:08 AM

I, honestly, wouldn't mind Martz. I mean, someone said earlier that the Saints would be a cross between "USC and the Rams." Is that so bad?

St. Louis
2001 - 14-2 *Playoffs
2002 - 7-9
2003 - 12-4 *Playoffs
2004 - 8-8 *Playoffs
2005 - 6-10

Granted, the Rams fell off this year. However, Martz was in the hospital. Still, they made the playoffs 3 times in 5 years. I don't have to post about what they did BEFORE the 2001 season. I think we all know.

And, of course, USC has 2 National Championships (ok, 1 for you LSU fans) and was the runner up this year.

I know we have problems on defence, but am I missing something here? When was the last time we made it to the playoffs? When was the last time we've had a winning record?

Martz would be a definate improvement over anything we've had the last couple of years.

I thought the NFL did not permit interviews of coaches that are still in Playoffs

I dunno. I think he has lost his marbles, but there you go.

I could live with that. Carthon was my pick back when everyone was clamoring for Romeo Crennel. Now, he's served under Crennel for a year in Cleveland, and prior to that, as the OC in Dallas under Parcells.

Pull the trigger.

sarge06 01-07-2006 01:32 PM

I think that I am leaning that way too. I wouldn't mind seeing Carthon

They will have to wait for the Giants to be out of the playoffs before they can speak to him. Honestly I don't think that will be too long.

Actually that's incorrect. Coordinators of teams in the playoffs are allowed to interview for jobs until the divisional round of the playoffs, if given permission by their teams.
