Payton the front runner!!!
Saints | Team meets with Payton
Thu, 12 Jan 2006 18:13:43 -0800 The Associated Press reports the New Orleans Saints met with Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Sean Payton an hour longer than scheduled Thursday, Jan. 12. If it wasn't a sign that he's a front runner for New Orleans' head coaching job, it was clear the Saints wanted his take on their uncertain quarterback situation. Payton stopped short of getting into specifics over whether he thought it would be worthwhile to keep QB Aaron Brooks or take a quarterback in the draft. Payton said he wouldn't be deterred by the Saints' poor showing in 2005, when the team was displaced to San Antonio and practiced in temporary facilities after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans Aug. 29. http://www.kffl.com/hotw/ |

RE: Payton the front runner!!!
hmmmm i dont know about him. i live in dallas so i get bombarded with all of the dallas cowboys crap. this guy hasn't been able to coach up any quarterbacks in the last five years (quincy, henson, testaverde, bledsoe), and their offense always seems boring. boo to him

RE: Payton the front runner!!!
You live in Dallas? is that near Winston-Salem, NC? If you ask any Texan, we're all in a suburb of either Dallas or Houston.

Drew Henson, I have no idea what got into Jones to get him after he was plating baseball for 3 years and out of football. Plus, Parcells will never let a rookie start ar QB. Bledsoe's been in the league for 13 years. Not too much coaching you can do there. Testaverde is 42 years old and has been in the league for 18 years. Not too much coaching you can do there either. |
RE: Re: RE: Payton the front runner!!!
What did he do before that? In Austin they are constantly baggin on Payton on the radio. They can't even beleive he is in the running, other than the fact he has been under Parcells for a few years. Well, Parcells hasn't exactly been blowing the league away. I think we need to go with a defensive guy.

Good posts . . . I am similarly of the mind that Payton may not meet our needs. Of the ones interviewed I think I was most impressed with Cathron from the discipline standpoint. I also hated for Friday to come . . . meaning Martz, which I think is probably the worst of the lot. I just read where Ron Rivera D Coach for the Bears is on the short list for the Bills. Why doesn't Loomis interview him and maybe Russ Grimm as well. I think Loomis is not exploring all of the options available to the Saints. A classic case of tunnelvision, but that is nothing new for Saints management.

Mike Martz has ***** tits

I hear ya Deuce. I have to hear the Cowboys crap too, and most Cowboys fans I have spoken to would be thrilled if we took Payton from them. That alone is giving me pause. It's kinda like Breen Gay hiring McCarthy. When I heard that, I just thought, "ugh." We would prob get the same response from a lot of Cowboys fans, with applause.

I am getting to the point that we should hire someone already. Doesn't seem like we are going to be able to get on of the top tier coaches to come in and make a difference seems to me we are going to have to gamble with a coach, find someone who wants to make a name for themselves and turn this program around. Hell, can't do much worse why now...
