Reciever can help offensive woes
Part of the Saints offensive troubles are all the dropped passes. They have 3 solid big-play capable recievers (when healthy) in Horn, Stallworth, and Henderson, but my feelings are they lack a true possession reciever. Horn has been great at getting the team out of a 3rd and long jam in the past but he was not up to par this season. Who out there either a 3rd round or later pick or free-agent wise could help the Saints solve this problem.

RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
I am in agreement we need some competition, whether it be from FA or draft really doesn't matter to me. I think if the group we have now feared they may lose their starting position they may just step up but nobody has been good enough to push them yet.

RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Hey BnB, what's up with the new avatar dude? What the hell is that anyway?
|
RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
that much is true black. usually takes wide outs a couple of seasons
|
RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
cherm i am not sure but i think that could be his love muscle
|
RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Damn, we don't need to be seeing that all the time. I'm glad he doesn't post alot.
Hey BnB, waz up dude you used to post alot? :argue: |
RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
the biggest problem with our wr's is that they are all tiny. joe horn is our tallest wr at a towering 6'1, they you have stallworth at 6', henderson at 5'11, hakim at 5'10, and moore at 5'9. next time one of them scores a touchdown they should do an umpa lumpa dance.
|
RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
i forgot lewis at 5'8. we also have lyman at 6'4 and poole at 6'2, but they are not exactly worth of starting on any team.

Joe Horn haters........................................

RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
the size of the wide receivers doesn't matter, just look at steve smith in carolina and santana moss in washington... in fact with the new rules implemented by the nfl last season, it actually helps to have smaller, shiftier wideouts b/c they can escape the jamming techniques used by most of the cover corners in the league... i know for a while the trend was to get these big receivers, and that's great if you do have those, but with those new "no touch within 5 yds." rules i really helps smaller receivers
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
I agree chRxis, but I also feel that having that large receiver on your team is a good thing- all you need is one to give you a prescence over the middle. Opposing teams' defenses have to account for that type of prescence. Some teams can get away with this, because they have a gifted tight end, who can fill this role. We don't.
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Or a huge TE like Tony Gonzalez or Gates. Who is tall and can jump....
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
kinda what i meant by "gifted" tight end.......
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
My bad, read too fast.... Only ones I see in this years Draft is Vernon Davis and Pope from UGA. That dude is TALL.
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
I like Pope. If he was there for our 2nd round pick, I would not be angry that we selected him. I would prefer a linebacker, but that is an area of need for us as well...
I just don't think he'll be there. |
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Yeah, but he might possibly be. Vernon and Mercedes Lewis from UCLA get most of the coverage. Maybe we get LB in the first so we have that option to get Pope in the second....?
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Not unless we trade down.
Players will slide- it happens every year, especially to linebackers. I think we as Saints' fans tend to overrate them, as far as the draft is concerned, because it has been an area of need for such a long time. I gurantee that at least one big-name linebacker will be available to us at the 2nd pick (Carpenter or Howard, most likely). |
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Having a taller WR changes a few things, leverage for one and also those deep up in the air endzone catches over the smaller CB's... its an advantage to have a taller WR over a smaller CB

RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
HOW BOUT REGGIE WAYNE
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
wayne would be great, but he is another tiny guy. i would much rather have moulds. he is only 6'2, but at a solid 210lbs he provides a big body for our qb of the future to pass too.

What about Hilton??
He did great.... and tell that small receiver thing to Steve Smith... Where's his "gifted " TE?...... |
Who said he needed one? You're also talking about one of the best receivers in the league. His level of concentration amazes me.
Hilton had a good year. As soon as I see some consistancy at the position, I'll consider it not to be a need. Honestly, I have questions about Boo, Conwell, and Hall. That does not give me the "warm and fuzzies", especially from a depth perspective. So, it is a need. Hilton can start for all I care. |
True...Boo can roll...
Conwell can roll Hall....the jury is still out... And that Shad kid needs to be on the field to be judged.... you're right....we need depth.... |
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
HANDS, HANDS, HANDS THAT IS WHAT WE NEED. Once again i will say HASS is our man he can come in and play right away. great route runner, goes after balls over the middle, and he blocks. he is a smart student of the game. We have all the speed in worlsd and if they can learn to hold on to the ball and drop 1/2 the passes they have dropped over the past two years then they would get doubled covered and free some others up. Till then they will not be viewed as a serious threat to score more than once in single coverage. If they do it is viewed as a fluke.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
HORN IS GETTING UP IN AGE, WE NEED A FA WR BADLY TO PUSH OUR WR'S. STALLWORTH WILL BE O/K , SKYLER GREEN WOULD BE A GREAT PICK-UP IN THE DRAFT. HE WOULD REALLY SPREAD THE FIELD AND HE WOULD BE GREAT AT KO'S AND PUNT RETURNS
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Skyler Green was the most under-utilized athlete in college football this past season. Shame on you Les Miles and Jimbo Fisher!
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
So what about Chase Lyman? He has the size we're talking about here but can he play? I honestly don't know that much about him.
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Devin Hester wouldn't be a bad pick up...That guy can fly
|
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
Welcome to all of you new members and I really like Skyler to but since we will probably pick a LB and QB with our first 2 picks and don't have a third round pick he will probably be gone by the 4th. We need to replace Lewis.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
4th Round: Marcus Colston 6'5 225 lbs. WR from Hofstra. I had been hearing alot about this guy from scouts all over, but never really got to watch him play. It seems that Hofstra isn't a real media darling of a school. Imagine that.
Anyway, I watched this kid play in the East-West Shrine game yesterday & all I can say is DAMNNNNNN... This kid can flat out play. He's got the size, decent speed, but most of all he catches everything. Guy was a basketball player (ala-Antonio Gates) turned WR. He's athletic with great hands. The latter of which we desperately need in a WR. |
RE: Re: RE: Re: Reciever can help offensive woes
we do need some tall ass receivers who can catch the ball
BETCHA AARON BROOKS CAN'T PLAY LIKE ME |
Onomo Ojo
Ok, seriously. Check this kid out. Brandon Marshall from Central Florida. Some places have him listed as 6'6" but others say 6'4". They switched him from receiver to safety for the 2004 season and he led the team in tackles. This year they put him back at receiver and he was the leading pass catcher. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player...layerId=135815 |
