RE: 2006 NFL Free Agents!
i wish we never would have let lorenzo neal go. i loved it when he broke bates' jaw. bates had so much potential, but no heart.
|
RE: 2006 NFL Free Agents!
i would be really happy if we picked up..
Julian Peterson SF Akin Ayodele Jax David Thornton Ind Will Witherspoon Car one of those guys i would be very happy. for qb: i would like to see... McCown ari Kitna cin i will probably get a lot of hate for this, but i ALMOST want to see brooks stay around for 1 more year to see if payton can do anything with him. i still want to draft a rookie (leinart or young) and pick up a vetern FA. i would have brooks on an EXTREMELY short chain and let him know it. |
RE: 2006 NFL Free Agents!
Heath Evans NE - talk about quick and a smash mouth runnerlikes north south the best. I like him. saw alot of him after NE got him from Miami. He lined up at TB alot. Swaping between TB, FB would not be hard for him to do. His hands are not that bad either. So the slot is there to. Alot of flex from one player and would be good $$ spent
|
RE: 2006 NFL Free Agents!
I would love to see Evans in Black and Gold but I would think that the Patriots will try to resign him.
|
RE: 2006 NFL Free Agents!
There is a shot for him here more than NE for playing time but NE will be in the hunt for a super bowl again next year. so that is against us, as is the OL
|
I would like to see the following in a Saints uniform. I feel they could help this team out:
MLB Derick Smith SF OLB Cato June IND WR David Givens NE I think those type players could bring in leadership and fill holes on our team. If you were GM and could pick three FAs off the list who would they be. |
Givens is out the patriots do not have a WR to replace him. Unless they go FA or draft but with the secondary needing help i doubt they will let him go. Safety is of big concern.
cato might fall out. all depends on the $ left after wayne and james are signed. Derrick might just want out so he is very prossible. but SF will make a bid to keep him |
Hey maybe this year we add a kicker like Adam Vinateri to the wish list or maybe Mike Vanderjaght (his time could be short in indy) or anyone else other than Carney for that matter
|
I see Wayne on the list. I think Reggie Wayne would be a great addition....if we can get him. Also...I would like to see Ronald McKinnon stay as a Saint. I don't know about you but all I saw that guy do durinmg this difficult season was stick people and stick them hard too. He hustled well and hits even better. I say keep Ronnie.

If one of you has a moment, please explain to me what "restricted" and "unrestricted" means.
Thanks. 8) |
Unrestricted veteran free agents are players who have completed four or more accrued seasons of service and whose contracts have expired. They are free to sign with any club through July 22 (or the first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later). On July 23, their exclusive rights will revert to their original club if that club made a June 1 tender to these players. Teams will have until the 10th week of the season (Nov. 15) to sign their unrestricted veteran free agents to whom a tender was made on June 1. If the player does not sign by Nov. 15, he must continue to sit out the remainder of the season. If a June 1 tender is not made to an unrestricted free agent, he continues to be free to sign with any club.
Restricted free agents are players who have completed three accrued seasons of service and whose contracts have expired. They have received qualifying offers from their old clubs and are free to negotiate with any club until April 15, at which time their rights revert to their original club. If a player accepts an offer from a new club, the old club will have the right to match the offer and retain the player. If the old club elects not to match the offer, it may receive draft-choice compensation depending on the level of the qualifying offer made to the player. |
Need an example of what restricted free agency can do for you, look at the Cowboys and Galloway, when they signed him away from Seattle. They had to, inturn, give up two first rounders for him. They haven't signed a restricted free agent since.....

2005 NFL Free Agency Q & A
Q -- What are the categories of free agency? A -- Players are either "restricted" or "unrestricted" free agents. Within the categories are also "transition" and "franchise" players. Q -- What is the time period for free agency signings this year? A -- For restricted free agents, from March 2 to April 15; for unrestricted free agents and transition players, from March 2 to July 22 (or the first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later); and for franchise players, from March 2 through the 10th week of the season (November 15). Q -- What is the difference between a restricted free agent and an unrestricted free agent? A -- Players become restricted free agents when they complete three accrued seasons and their contract expires. Unrestricted free agents have completed four or more accrued seasons with an expired contract. Q -- What constitutes an "accrued season?" A -- Six or more regular-season games on a club's active/inactive, reserved-injured or "physically unable to perform" lists. Q -- Other than accrued seasons, what determines a restricted free agent? A -- He has received a "qualifying" offer (a salary level predetermined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players) from his old club. He can negotiate with any club through April 15. If the restricted free agent accepts an offer sheet from a new club, his old club can match the offer and retain him because it has the "right of first refusal." If the old club does not match the offer, it can possibly receive draft-choice compensation depending on the amount of its qualifying offer. If an offer sheet is not executed, the player’s rights revert to his old club on April 15. Q -- What determines an unrestricted free agent? A – A player with four or more accrued seasons whose contract has expired. He is free to sign with any club, with no compensation owed to his old club, through July 22 (or the first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later). On July 23, his rights revert to his old club if it made a "tender" offer (110 percent of last year's salary) to him by June 1. His old club then has until the Tuesday after the 10th week of the season (November 15) to sign him. If he does not sign by November 15, he must sit out the season. If no tender is offered by June 1, the player can be signed by any club at any time throughout the season. Q -- What determines a transition player? A -- His club must offer a minimum of the average of the top 10 salaries of last season at the player's position or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation. Q -- What determines a franchise player? A -- A club can designate one franchise player (or one transition player) in any given year. The salary level offer by a player's old club determines what type of franchise player he is. An "exclusive" franchise player -- not free to sign with another club -- is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of April 15, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. If the player is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries of last season at his position, or 120 percent of the player’s previous year’s salary, he becomes a “non-exclusive franchise player and can negotiate with other clubs. His old club can match a new club's offer, or receive two first-round draft choices if it decides not to match. Q -- Can a club decide to withdraw its franchise or transition designations on a player? If so, can it then use them on other players? A -- A club can withdraw its franchise or transition designations and the player then automatically becomes an unrestricted free agent either immediately or when his contract expires. The club cannot name a new transition player (two allowed in 1993, one in 1994 and one in the final year of the CBA). It can name a new franchise player the next year. A club can, though, designate a transition player in lieu of a franchise player at any time. Q –- What determines each team’s salary cap? Is it always in effect? A – The salary cap is the maximum each club may spend on player salaries in a capped year. For 2005, that amounts to 65.5 percent of leaguewide “Defined Gross Revenues (divided by 32 teams), made up of preseason, regular-season and postseason gate receipts and radio and television rights. The cap is in effect 365 days a year. From March 2 to the day before the season begins, a club’s top 51 salaried players count towards the cap, plus pro-rated signing bonuses, incentives, etc., but not base salaries of other players on the roster up to 80. Thereafter, all salaries on a club’s roster count towards the cap. The maximum salary cap for 2005 is $85,500,000 per club. The performance-based pay pool is an additional $2,481,000 per team. Player benefits are $13,359,000 per club above the salary cap number. This is the first time in history that a sports league will average more than $100 million per team annually in player costs. |
