Saints Hire Palmer As Offensive Coordinator

IRVING, Texas - One day after the Cowboys interviewed Chris Palmer to replace the departed Sean Payton, the former Bill Parcells assistant coach accepted a similar position with, of all people, Payton and the New Orleans Saints.

Good news everyone, We raped the Cowboys for our coaching staff.

I like the decisiveness. He really seems to know what he want's and it appears to me that he is doing to hiring. If he fails next year they are all gone but I like his guts. Man has juevos from hell.

Nice choice....I'm seeing a wide-open offense next season. I think the Saints could be putting up a lot of points as long as they get the player personnel right.

RE: Saints Hire Palmer As Offensive Coordinator

I know everyone has had that feeling like maybe this is our year but I am already getting that feeling about this year. With most of the staff already in place (hired Dalrymple as the strengh coach too) they will have alot of planning time before the draft and from the sounds of it he is talking to alot of prospects in Mobile.

GoldenTomb 01-26-2006 09:51 PM

I am highly impressed by this hire. Whenever you can get a former head coach(albeit a bad head coach) as a coordinator it turns out to be successful many times. That's how these guys get their second and third chances. In any event a great hire.

gandhi1007 01-26-2006 10:22 PM

I'm beginning to like this guy more & more. He seems like he wants to get the ball rolling early.

jergensl 01-27-2006 12:18 AM

i agree with chermy...he has some huevos...and i like that.

i think palmer will bring a lot to this offense.

TheDeuce 01-27-2006 12:46 AM

Does this guy know what he's doing on offense? Does it matter since Payton'll be calling the shots? What will his "role" be? From what everybody's been saying, it sounds good.

I'll never get that feeling again until AB is out of town and we have someone along the lines of Darth Vader or Doug Flutie at QB. If our new QB cant choke defensive linemen to death, do the Super Bowl shuffle, use the Jedi mind trick on the refs, or serve us a delicious and nutritious bowl of Flutie Flakes, we are doomed.

I'm sorry to be the one to break the news to you. But hey. There it is.

Mann we should juet be called the dallas saints we have all there ppl...... hahah

Tobias-Reiper 01-27-2006 08:09 AM

"This is a rather interesting move since Palmer seemed to be a good fit in Dallas, where he would reunite with Parcells, quarterback Drew Bledsoe and offensive line coach/run-game coordinator Tony Sparano."

..guess he wants the chance to coach Leinart..

yasoon 01-27-2006 08:35 AM

Kinda funny. Lurking on another forum where everyone is up in arms over this hire.

It's so subjective at this point...there is no way to know how this mix will work till we see it in action.
We certainly have the whitest 3 coaches in the league....which is a little annoying.

The way I see it...Payton is an up comer who is well thought of (for what that's worth....I mean Venturi is a great football guy if you ask around.)

Gibbs has seen alot of football and is a welcome change, if not just for the sheer sake of change. Hopefully, he will get us away from read and react and get us to attack mode. If your D is going to get burned, you may as well make it on a safety blitz. Watching the Steelers the last few weeks has really made me long for the Saints D of yore, where QBs were terrified to get on the field. Will Gibbs take us there? Who knows....but we certainly weren't there before. (Oh, and Gibbs looks like a preacher who would molest small children...which is never good.)

And Palmer....looks like a tool. Kinda has that face you could see yourself teeing off on in 2 years. But, he does have HC experience, albeit it a bad run. He and Payton will be working togetether to gameplan. Having never seen these 2 work together with our guys...it really is impossible to know what to expect. Sounds like Payton likes to gun it a bit, which is fine as long as he does it creatively. Palmer's reputation as a teacher should help in preparation leading up to Sunday. Could be a good mix.......could suck balls. But....it is exciting to know that we'll see a different Saints team this fall.

And what's up with us beating America's team out of coaches? I thought this was going to be a staff people would run from based on what the experts said..... Seems like nobody flinched at coming to NO, which I like to see.

FatiusJeebs 01-27-2006 09:06 AM

Is Leinart really that big of a deal? I really think that we should draft down and get Hawk. Do you guys honestly feel that Leinart can come in and eventually get the job done?

mjf150 01-27-2006 09:19 AM

Yes, IMHO, I believe he can. It's not just my opinion, but every draft analyst, so far, agrees that he will be a successful NFL QB. This was not the case with guys like Leaf, where some analyst said he would be great and a few others were not convinced. It is unanimous with Lienart. While not all analyst are convince that Young will be a NFL QB, they all agree that Lienart will be, at the very least, a good, if not great, NFL QB.

As far as the topic at hand, does anyone know what the coaching staff turnover was when Haslett took over? I know for a fact that he kept Venturi from the previous regime. Does anyone think that Payton will do a complete house-cleaning?

Why does the fact that they are white have anything to do with coaching? If somebody had switched it around and said "we have the blackest 3 coaches... which is annoying" they'd be called a racist. There's no need to talk about race here. These three guys come highly recommended, and should be good for this franchise.

Hey, Peyton, Palmer, and Gibbs, weren't exactly my first choice either, but I believe that this kind of talk is unnecessary and inappropriate. And it is borderline racist.

FatiusJeebs 01-27-2006 11:02 AM

No....it IS racist. As the Deuce said....if it was the other way around....it would be called racist. All of a sudden its borderline because the comments were about white coaches? I'm not comin down on you mjf by any means.... but I get tired of buttering up certain things when the races are switched. The only colors that all of us in these forums need to worry about are GOLD and BLACK. Period! ;0)

iceshack149 01-27-2006 12:37 PM

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one disappointed with that post.

I did a double take and wondered if "whitest" was a misspelled word. I couldn't make any other word out of it and after reading the rest of the post I realized that the poster is wack. Those comments are terrible.

I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't like going around outright accusing someone of being a racist without seeing a history of repetitive lapse in judgement pertaining to racial equality. That would make me no better than him.

fhs623 01-27-2006 12:55 PM

wasn't chris palmer the ex-head coach of the browns? if so, i wasn't impressed with huim and his job with tim couch.

I don't think anybody was, but to his credit, they were the Browns.

fhs623 01-27-2006 01:08 PM

true dat

FatiusJeebs 01-27-2006 01:10 PM

Im sorry mjf. Like I said....I did not mean to sound like I was comin down on you but I guess this particular topic just irritates the hell out of me.

johnnyhomey 01-27-2006 02:10 PM

Has this been confirmed by the Saints?

dwiley21 01-27-2006 02:15 PM

Glad to see Payton is being aggressive and is already making an impression. It will be interesting to see if free agents will view N.O. as well as coaches have. Forget XL I'm ready for free agency and the draft.

TheDeuce 01-27-2006 02:19 PM

Despite all of these "hirings," neworleanssaints.com (the official site) and ESPN.com have yet to report anything besides Payton and Gibbs' hiring. Hmmmmm.....

JOESAM2002 01-27-2006 04:13 PM

I have a question. Why haven't the Saints or ESPN or anybody announced the hireing of Palmer. The only place I found it was the link provided by the Cowboys. Just a thought.

Jesus Christ. I'm white. Those dudes are WHITE... Settle down.

There are those guys that are just pasty, pale, spent every day inside, borderline unhealthy white.
All 3 of those guys are that guy.

Perhaps you are the ones being racist by turning it into a race issue. And anyone who doesn't know me and is too stupid to look at my posts and realize that I am on both sides of the race issue can bite me for saying that.

And, yes, I would like to see a little diversity on our coaching staff other than a bunch of pale white arians. But, if you read my post (deuce), you would see that I have no problem with the hires....just commenting that you will not find a whiter bunch. Look at the freaking pictures...Christ.

BlackandBlue 01-27-2006 04:36 PM

yeah, the pasty level on Gibbs is extraordinarily high.

as long as he can coach, i give a **** ;)

Give me a freaking break. Terrible? Whack? Is that all you got out of the post was that our coaches are super white? They are super white. Steve Mariucci, Jon Gruden, Jim Mora, John Fox....not super white.

Go take a look at Gary Gibbs and show me a whiter guy.
http://hawkzone.cjonline.com/newcoach/images/gibbs.jpg

What was whack about the rest of my post? Give me one thing I said that didn't make sense.

Everybody is on here looking for reverse racism. I did not intend for anything I said to be racist and I apologize that anyone was offended by it. But....don't come after me like that when you don't know me or where I stand. I am the least racist person you will ever meet and I will argue any case on the side of who I think is right...not based on race.

The same way you will hear a black man say that guys like wesley snipes or biggie are really dark skinned brothers, you might hear a guy like me say that Gary Gibbs and Sean Payton are really white. It is not racist....there are clearly lighter and darker versions of all races. I am white....but I have some color to my skin...therefore I am not superwhite....get it?

And if you don't believe they're super white....just ask Sean to dance for you....you'll see.

I think we got it, relax. Nothing more to see here, move along, move along.

BJSim 01-27-2006 04:47 PM

I agree with BnB. I don't care what the coaches look like, just that they get the job done.

yasoon 01-27-2006 04:51 PM

I agree too. And I apparently derailed the whole discussion by making a freaking joke about their appearance. I like these hires....I think they all bring a good mix to the table.

Just think...jason lee....direct descendant of Robert E., got accused of being rascist to white people on a message board today. I really have come a long way from south mississippi :)

CheramieIII 01-27-2006 06:30 PM
