And there are always pundits that prefer to be contrarian. It's boring if everyone is the same. The contrarian just so happens to be a well known correspondent in Mortensen. There is never going to be universal agreement on who will go where in the draft. I do question anyone who has Cutler going as the first QB taken. Most talented or not, there is so much more that goes into picking a player in the early rounds of draft than talent. I doubt seriously that they stick with these statements within the next month. |

In case you were wondering, after the 2003-04 season ended, Rivers was projected as an early 2nd round pick. It was his play during the senior bowl and personal workouts that elevated him to top-3. Do I think Cutler will follow that same path? No, in my opinion, he might reach the end of the 1st, but that's it. But, you never know, and there are things that can happen after the season has ended that will move people around, as far as draft value is concerned. |
Apparently he had good practices during Senior week, but he obviously had a poor showing in the Senior Bowl. Most likely scenario for this guy is going to Detroit or Arizona.
I still believe that he's just the "trendy pick." Everybody is taking Leinart or Young, Mort wanted a little shock value, so he goes with the dark horse Cutler. But I don't think Cutler's near as good as the other two. Probably the best thing you can look at is his mediocre passing completion percentage. Another thing to consider is Scouts, Inc. ranks him as the #17 player on their big board, and Mel Kiper has him at #14. Obviously he's talented, and could turn out to be a good pick, but he's not top 3 material. End of story. |
